Letter of Apostle Matthew – The Gospel
An Intimate Review
Pt 17
By Lawrence DeMetrius
Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43
PARABLE 2: The Parable of the Tares
Jesus Christ begins this PARABLE by likening the Kingdom of Heaven to a man who SOWED good SEED in his FIELD. [Mt 13:24] While the workers of the field slept, the enemy of the field owner came and sowed TARES among the WHEAT in his FIELD. [Mt 13:25] When the blades of both SEEDS matured, they grew up together. [Mt 13:26] The workers of the FIELD noticed blades of the TARES and knew the owner only planted WHEAT. They inquired of the owner as to whether or not he wanted them to remove the TARE from among the WHEAT. [Mt 13:27, 28] However, the field owner instructed them to preserve the WHEAT by allowing the TARES to grow with them until the harvest season, at which time both are to be gathered and separated. At that time the WHEAT will be stored in barn and the TARE will be BOUND and BURNED. [Mt 13:29, 30] After sending away His audience of general public hearers of this parable, Christ declared to the principle thereof to His disciples. Apostle Matthew also notes in this passage the importance of asking for fuller understanding of divine words, which THE DIVINE are happy to bestow. [Mt 13:36; Jam 1:5] Christ then imparts the fuller revelation of the parable.
1. Jesus Christ is the SOWER of the WHEAT SEED. [Mt 13:24, 37]
2. The WORLD is the FIELD which Christ owns. [Mt 13:24, 38; Heb 1:2]
3. The children of the kingdom of GOD are the GOOD WHEAT and SEED SOWN into the FIELD. [Mt 13:24, 38]
4. The children of the wicked one are the TARES SOWN in the FIELD by the ENEMY. [Mt 13:28, 38; Rm 3:23; 19; 7:18, 24, 25; 8:5-8; Phil 3:19]
5. Lucifer is the ENEMY who SOWED the TARE SEEDS in the FIELD of the owner. [Mt 13:28, 39; Gen 3:1-6]
6. The end of the WORLD or the Final Day of Judgment is the HARVEST. [Mt 13:30, 39; Eze 18:4, 19-23, 31, 32; Heb 9:27]
7. The holy angels of GOD are the REAPERS or WORKERS of the FIELD owner. [Mt 13:27, 39; Heb 1:6]
8. The BURNING FURNACE prepared the ENEMY and his children the TARES are symbolic of The Lake of Fire or Second Death. [Rev 20:5; 21:8] These are they whose names were blotted out of The Book of Life from the foundation of the world. [Mt 13:30, 40-42; Lk 10:20; Exo 30:30-33; Rev 13:10; 17:8; 20:11-15]
9. The KINGDOM OF GOD is the BARN wherein the WHEAT or children of GOD are preserved and will shine forever and ever. [Mt 13:30, 43]
Per this parable, Lucifer will SOW TARES throughout the WORLD or EARTH until his final demise. It is intentional that WHEAT and TARES grow together for a season and for the purpose of preserving the WHEAT. [Lk 10:19; Gen 3:15] However, at the END or HARVEST, which is The Final Day of Judgment, they will be gathered, separated and then preserved in designated places. Yahweh speaks of The Book of Life through Moses. [Exo 32:30-33] The names of all who would ever defy THE LORD with unrepentant resolve, are removed from this Book. [St Jn 3:19, 36] Although every soul belongs to Yahweh, not all of them will choose to be restored to HIM through Christ, their prescribed Righteousness. [Jn 8:13, 24; Rm 3:26; 10:1-4; I Cor 1:30; I Jn 3:1-3] By rejecting Christ, they declare themselves children of Lucifer, forfeit eternal salvation and willingly receive Lucifer’s own fate. [I Jn 3:8-10; Mt 25:41; Rev 20:15; St Jn 3:19, 36]
Matthew 13:31, 32
PARABLE 3: The Parable of the Mustard Seed
In The Parable of the Mustard Seed, Christ describes The Kingdom of Heaven as a grain of mustard seed that is planted in a field. [Mt 13:31, 32a] He reiterates that the mustard seed is the LEAST of all seeds.
*least Gk #3398 mikros (mik-ros) it means small in size and quantity and is figurative of dignity, which is…
1. bearing conduct or speech that is indicative of self-respect and appreciation for formality of a situation
2. worthiness, nobility and elevation of character
3. elevated rank, office and station
4. a sign or token of respect
5. a person of high rank or title and such persons collectively
When Christ came into the world, He was not received by all. Only those given to Him by Yahweh receive Him and are given power to become sons of GOD. [St Jn 1:1-4, 11-13] In that most world leaders at the time of His tenure on earth had little to no regard for Him or His message, the comparison of the Word being the size of a grain of mustard seed is fitting. When a mustard seed is fully matured, it becomes the greatest among herbs and a tree wherein many species of birds can come and lodge within its branches. Despite the devaluation of His opposers, Christ’s fame or outreach in the world was inevitable. His mission as the incarnate Word of GOD is to offer eternal salvation to all who desire it. Per this parable, BIRDS are figurative of earthly nations, tribes and tongues of peoples. [Mt 11:27-30; Heb 4:9; 7:25]
Matthew 13:33-35
PARABLE 4: The Parable of the Leaven
In The Parable of The Leaven, Jesus Christ likens The Kingdom of Heaven to LEAVEN.
*leaven Gk #2219 zume (dzoo-may) it is ferment as if boiling up and is figurative of the act of agitating or exciting
In the parable, the LEAVEN was HID by a woman in three measures of meal until the WHOLE was LEAVEN.
*hid Gk #1470 egkrupto (eng-kroop-to) it means to conceal in or incorporate with
*whole Gk #3650 holos (ho-los) it means whole, all or complete
Matthew 13:44
PARABLE 5: The Parable of the Hidden Treasure
<See PARABLE 1: The Parable of the Sower [vs 3b-9, 18-23; Prov 25:2; Rev 1:5, 6]>
In The Parable of The Hidden Treasure, Jesus Christ likens the Kingdom of Heaven to a treasure that is hidden in a field that is not owned by the one who hid it there. Eventually, the one who encroached upon the field sold all he had to purchase it. It is common knowledge that whoever owns land also owns the resources of that land. In that Lucifer was given influence, he was able to bury worthless treasure within the world. However, he is not the owner of the world, which belongs to GOD. As noted in The Parable of Seed Sower, some of this land is GOOD GROUND, which THE LORD has given to Christ to redeem. [Gen 3:1-6; St Jn 6:37-40, 44, 45, 65]
Matthew 13:45, 46
PARABLE 6: The Parable of the Goodly Pearl
In The Parable of The Goodly Pearl, Jesus Christ likens The Kingdom of God to a MERCHANT who is seeking a GOODLY PEARL. When the MERCHANT finds it at a great price, he sells all he owns to purchase it. The emphasis is on owning the GOODLY PEARL at whatever price necessary.
*merchant Gk #1713 emporos (em-por-os) it is a wholesale tradesman
1. wholesale is…
a. of, pertaining to or engaged in sale by wholesale
b. extensive and broadly indiscriminate
2. tradesman is a…
a. person engaged in trade
b. worker skilled in a particular craft
c. shopkeeper, retail merchant or a person who owns or operates a small store or shop
Christ the Word is sent forth to find and take ownership of GOODLY PEARLS.
This parable indicates that Christ does not discriminate, as HIS FATHER searches the whole earth for HEARTS that are whole toward HIM. [II Chr 16:9; St Jn 3:16-20; Rm 2:1-11; 3:23-26; 5] Wise merchants redeem GOODLY things at the right price. The value of every redeemable soul is the life of Jesus Christ. [I Jn 3:1-3] Therefore, all born-again believers should know, that in Yahweh’s perspective, their soul was and is worth the life of HIS Son, Jesus the Christ.
Matthew 13:47-52
PARABLE 7: The Parable of the Net
In The Parable of The Net the Kingdom of Heaven is likened to a NET that is cast into the SEA and GATHERS fish of every kind. THE LORD does not limit salvation to any particular nation, as it is HIS desire for all souls to live forever in HIS favor. [II Pet 3:9]
*net Gk #4522 sagene (sag-ay-nay) it is a fishing net that hangs vertically in the water with floats at the upper edge and sinkers at the lower
Christ and His brethren are fishers of mortal souls. [Mt 4:19] Their public ministries are likened to fishing. The Gospel of Christ is the NET they let down into the sea of nations. While many people are GATHERED into their NETS, only those who are fortunately GATHERED up into the NET of the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ, will inherit abundant and eternal life. [Jn 10:10]
*gathered Gk #4863 sunago (soon-ag-o) it means to lead together, collect, convene and entertain hospitably [Mt 28:18-20]
As in PARABLE 4: The Parable of The Goodly Pearl, Christ identifies The Kingdom of Heaven as the Source that labors to GATHER the GOOD from amongst all nations. Yahweh is not going to do away with any soul that is inherently GOOD. HE has every intention to redeem all of them through effective administration of The Divine Gospel. The Parable of the Net also gives credence to the element of time, in that Christ says that WHEN the NET is full, it is drawn to shore where workers will GATHER the GOOD into vessels and cast the BAD into a furnace of fire. This indeed again is referring to The Final Day of Judgment. [Mt 13:48-50; Rev 20:11-15]
