An Intimate Review
Pt 5
By Lawrence DeMetrius
Jesus Christ the Healer
In [Lk 8:41-56] Apostle Luke notes two necessary elements to obtaining miraculous healing for self and others. In all occasions one must surrender to Christ’s authority.
1. Per the experience of Jairus, a synagogue ruler who sought Christ for the HEALING of his daughter and only child, the following is revealed. Belief in the authority and ability of Yahweh’s Word is crucial. Christ the Word is always at work manifesting what benefits one’s wellbeing, which is not limited to miracles. Unbelief will hinder such manifestations. [Mk 6:4-6; Heb 11:1, 6] One must also keep themselves in the company of others who believe in the authority and ability of GOD’S Word. In fact, per Apostle Paul, it is a command for believers to assemble for corporate worship. [Heb 10:25] Born-again believers are empowered to do more together than alone. This is especially so in The Ministry of Divine Iconoclasm. [Eccl 4:9-11; Mt 18:18-20]
2. Per the experience of the woman with the issue of blood the following is revealed. When the opportunity for miraculous healing is available, one should seize the moment at whatever cost. This woman’s experience also teaches that there is a quality of faith that draws healing from Christ without a formal request. [Rm 8:28; Jn 14:12; Heb 11:1; Mk 11:22] Per Apostle James, genuine faith is expressed with one’s action no matter how unwise, foolish, politically or culturally incorrect their action might be to others. [JAm 2] This is was certainly the case for this woman. First, she was not supposed to be among other community citizens due to her cancerous condition. Second, instead of confining herself so she could not come into contact with others, she came out into public and purposely touched someone at will. In her time, doing these actions were grounds for severe punishment per Mosaic Law.
However, when Christ sensed her touch of faith, He affirmed her healing and status as a righteous woman of faith. As in the lives of Jairus and the woman with the issue of blood, wonderful manifestations can occur for all who genuinely believe in the authority and ability of Yahweh’s Word.
In [Lk 9:1-6, 10-36, 57-62; 10:1-16] Apostle Luke writes about the first evangelical mission of The Original Twelve Apostles. They begin to learn how to trust THE LORD for daily provision while on their missions. Later, Christ required of them to only equip themselves with certain things while on mission. He also taught them to maintain a certain level of self-sufficiency while on mission. Although THE LORD encourages giving to the needs of HIS ministers, there is scriptural evidence that The Original Apostles also conducted secular business to pay for personal needs. Apostle Luke notes that Christ imparted to them authority to cast out devils, cure diseases and sicknesses of the physical body and to effectively speak. The Original Twelve Apostle did not go out on their own accord with their own philosophies. As did Christ, Christian Witnesses are only to go forth in the power and word given them by THE LORD. Per the miracle of thousands fed with five fish and two loaves of bread, Christ teaches His Apostles that what might appear insufficient in the natural, can become enough when entrusted to GOD. Christian ministers must recognize their value per Yahweh’s perspective. As they serve HIM with faith filled obedience and thankfulness, HE will provide through them what is needed of them they serve on HIS behalf. The passage also indicates the unfortunate apostacy of disciples who do renounce Christ. Christ is well aware of the varying degrees of faith people have in Him as the Christ. However, it is paramount that His witnesses undoubtedly believe that He is the true Christ and Son of Yahweh, especially in times of persecution. [Mt 5:11, 12; 10:22; 24:9; Jn 15:18, 24, 25; 16:33; 17:14; I Jn 3:10, 13] Everything He said and did before His earliest disciples was to strengthen them for the challenges they would encounter after His ascension. He made it clear that upon receiving spiritual regeneration and call to divine ministry, one must prioritize no one or nothing above it. [Lk 8:51, 52, 57-62] In [Lk 9:7-9] Apostle Luke expresses how important it is for one to know that Christ Jesus was a real mortal person. There are many non-religious archives that support the reality of His Person, character and public activities. Many renown world leaders existed during His time, who are also documented in credible archives of history. Most of which are Roman leaders like Herod Antipas the Tetrarch who governed ancient Galilee and Perea.
In fact, he is the Roman ruler responsible for the beheading of John the Baptist. [Mt 14:1, 3; Mk 6:14; 8:15; Lk 3:1, 19; 9:7; 13:31; 23:7, 11; Act 13:1]
The Second Evangelical Mission Involving 70 Other Disciples
The Great Harvest of Yahweh
The Constant Need for Laborers in Yahweh’s Harvest
In [Lk 10:1-16; 9:1-6] Apostle Luke writes about the second evangelical mission, which involved 70 disciples of Christ who were also endowed with divine gratuities. Those appointed by Yahweh to serve in HIS HARVESET are so chosen per HIS perspective of them and the quality of service they can render on HIS behalf. These chosen few are admonished to ask THE LORD to send more like them into HIS HARVEST. The effectiveness of ministry is highly noticeable with those who are chosen and sent by Yahweh. [Lk 10:2; Rm 10:14, 15]
*harvest Gk #2326 therismos (ther-is-mos) it is a reaping and the crop reaped
It is important for genuine messengers of Yahweh to know that HE has already selected the audience HE wants them to serve. [St Jn 1:12, 13] Yahweh is always at work preparing souls to receive divine service, namely those who are predestined to worship HIM forever and ever. [I Cor 3:6; Rm 8:28-30] Their names were written in HIS Book of Life from the foundation of the world. [Exo 32:30-33; Rev 20:12, 15; Lk 10:20] In [Lk 10:3-19] Christ imparts the same power unto the seventy other disciples He imparted to the twelve apostles, indicating that He has no respect of persons amongst His messengers. It also notes that Christ witnessed Lucifer’s expulsion from his heavenly estate. [Lk 10:18; Isa 14:12-20; Eze 28; Jude vs 6; Rev 12:4] Inclusive of the powers He imparted to all His disciples are the following four gratuities.
1. The POWER to TREAD on SERPENTS and SCORPIONS.
*power (1) Gk #1849 exousia (ex-oo-see-ah) it is…
• privilege, force and capacity
• competency, freedom and mastery
• magistrate, authority and delegated influence
*tread Gk #3961 pateo (pat-eh-o) it means to tread down under foot
*serpents Gk #3789 ophis (of-is) it is a snake and is figurative of a sly, cunning and artfully malicious person, of which Lucifer is chief
*scorpions Gk #4651 skorpios (skor-pee-os) it is a scorpion from its sting and is figurative of mortals who willingly give themselves to satanic influence [Eze 2:6]
2. POWER over ALL the POWER of THE ENEMY.
*power (2) Gk #1411 dunamis (doo-nam-is) it is miraculous power and a miracle itself
POWER in this scripture is divine AUTHORITY to effectively combat satanic forces and their influence over and within the mortal mind. It does not entail usurping unwarranted control of mortal minds and well-being. [St Jn 3:16; Eph 6:10-12; II Cor 4:7-10; 10:4, 5; I Jn 4:1-6]
*enemy Gk #2190 echthros (ekh-thros-) it is an adversary or one who is hateful, odious and hostile, especially Lucifer
3. PROTECTION from all that can HURT them.
*hurt Gk #91 adikeo (ad-ee-keh-o) it means to be unjust and do moral, social or physical harm to
HURT in this scripture is anything that causes a righteous person to do something they know is wrong. Elements of HURT cannot be conquered by double-minded people. [St Jn 4:24, 24; Mt 6:22-24; Jam 1:5-8]
4. They are given the right to always REJOICE because their NAMES are written in The Book of Life. [Lk 10:20; Exo 32:30-33; Rev 13:8; 17:8; 20:11-15]
*rejoice Gk #5463 chairo (khah-ee-ro) it means to be cheer, full of cheer, calmly happy and well-off
*names Gk #3686 onoma (on-om-ah) it is one’s unique identify, authority and character
In [Lk 10:21] Apostle Luke notes that these disciples were spiritual BABES who were becoming acquainted with their divine gratuities as sons of GOD.
*babes Gk #3516 nepios (nay-pee-os) it means unable to speak, an infant or minor and is figurative of a simple-minded person or immature Christian
Every born-again believer began their journey in Christ as BABES. In fact, it is the only way one can inherit Yahweh’s kingdom. [Mt 18:3] In [Lk 10:22-24] Christ reveals that Yahweh imparts certain insight to HIS spiritual offspring, which cannot be perceived by those of the world who are deemed wise and prudent. [I Cor 1:18-31; 2]
How Readest Thou?
In [Lk 10:25-37] a lawyer of Mosaic Law questioned Christ about the requirement for inheriting eternal life. Christ in turn asked the lawyer for his perception regarding the matter, based on his knowledge of the scriptures. The lawyer responds correctly saying,
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.
[Lk 10:27]
Christ then affirms his answer and instructed the lawyer to follow that instruction and he would inherit eternal life. However, because the lawyer was of an unjust heart, he attempted to justify his self-imposed righteousness by questioning Christ about who his NEIGHBOR was. Knowing his cunningness, Christ responded with The Parable of The Good Samaritan. [Lk 10:30-37] The parable teaches that religiosity, academic and social status mean nothing when one’s heart is void of genuine love. [Pro 8:17-21, 33-36; I Cor 13; I Jn 3:18] In this parable there is a man who is likely a worshiper of GOD traveling from Jerusalem. He encounters another person who was assaulted by THIEVES who left him STRIPPED of his RAIMENT, WOUNDED and HALF DEAD. [Lk 10:30]
*thieves Gk #3027 leistes (lace-tace) it is a robber
*stripped Gk #1562 ekduo (ek-doo-o) it means to cause to sink out of and divest, specifically of clothing
*raiment Gk #2441 himatismos (him-at-is-mos) it is clothing
*wounds Gk #5134 trauma (trow-mah) it means to wound
*half Gk #2253 hemithanes (hay-mee-than-ace) it means entirely exhausted
Then came one who was a priest travelling down the same road. When he saw the victim laying in the road, he did nothing to help him. He simply passed by him on the other side of the road. [Lk 10:31; Gal 6:1-3] Then came another who was a Levite, who beheld the victim but also showed no compassion toward him. [Lk 10:32] Finally, there came one who was a Samaritan, an outcast of the Hebrew nation because of their mixed ethnicity. After he beheld the victim, he expressed compassion toward him. Although Samaritans could in no way bear the title or office of a priest of Yahweh, it did not stop him from exhuming the love that should always be practiced by a true worshiper of THE LORD. Although the Samaritan was not a priest of Yahweh, he possessed a heart of love, which pleases Yahweh. [Lk 10:33-35] It is the kind of heart that is required to serve in The Ministry of Divine Iconoclasm, which moves one to do the following toward wounded souls. [Lk 4:18, 19]
1. Have COMPASSION. [Lk 10:33]
2. Avail themselves to help one in need. [Lk 10:34]
3. Bind up their wounds and apply elements of healing. [Lk 10:34]
4. Provide needed transport to get to a place of recluse. [Lk 10:34]
5. Provide a safe place where they can complete their healing. [Lk 10:34]
6. Provide them with good care until they are able to move on. [Lk 10:34]
7. Entrust trustworthy professionals to help care for them as they tend to their personal business. [Lk 10:35]
All of the above is lot to do for a stranger. In [Lk 10:36, 37] Christ asked the lawyer which of the three did he think was a NEIGHBOR to the victim. The lawyer answered saying, “He that sheweth mercy on him.” It was then the lawyer recognized his own lack of love. Christ then instructed him to go and do likewise. All born-again believers must know that a NEIGHBOR is one who shows another compassion in their time of need. [I Jn 3:17; 4:20]
