Letter of Apostle Luke – The Gospel
An Intimate Review
Pt 11
By Lawrence DeMetrius

Intercession of The Divine

In [Lk 22:31-34] Jesus Christ warns Apostle Peter of Lucifer’s desire to SIFT him as wheat. As it was for Apostle Peter, so it is for all effective leaders in Christ’s movement. [Mt 16:15-20] In fact, it has always been this way for messengers of Yahweh. [Mt 5:11, 12] However, Christ assured Peter that his FAITH would not FAIL because of His PRAYER unto Yahweh on his behalf. [Lk 22:37] In fact, Christ and the Holy Ghost are PRAYING to Yahweh on behalf of all born-again believers that their FAITH in HIM and HIS Word FAIL not. [Jn 17; Rm 8:26, 27]

*sift Gk #4617 siniazo (sin-ee-ad-zo) it means to riddle, which means to…

*faith Gk #4102 pistis (pis-tis) it is…
1. persuasion and credence
2. moral conviction of a religious truth, the truthfulness of Yahweh or a religious teacher
3. reliance upon Jesus Christ for salvation and constancy in such profession
4. the system of religious truth based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ

*fail Gk #1587 ekleipo (ek-li-po) it means to cease or omit

In [Lk 22:32] Christ instructs Apostle Peter to STRENGTHEN his brethren once he is fully CONVERTED.

*strengthen Gk #4741 sterizo (stay-rid-zo) it means to set fast, confirm or turn resolutely in a certain direction

*convert Gk #1994 epistrepho (ep-ee-stref-o) it means to revert, return, turnabout, go, come or turn again

In [Lk 22:32-34, 54-62] Christ addresses the devastating grief Apostle Peter would experience upon denying Him three times. After recently witnessing Judas Iscariot’s betrayal of Christ, he found himself denouncing Christ by his actions. Had it not been for divine intercession, Apostle Peter may very well have committed suicide himself. Only by divine intervention was he able to rebound from his stupor, be holistically CONVERTED and equipped to STRENGTHEN his brethren.

Prepared for Christian Mission

In [Lk 22:35-38; 9:1-6] Apostle Luke notes that there is a certain level of faith, preparation and self-sufficiency Christian ministers must maintain while on mission. During the first evangelical mission there were certain things the disciples were forbidden to take with them. This was necessary in order for them to learn that Yahweh will provide what they need whenever they are unable to provide for themselves. Christian ministers are also to equip themselves with certain things prior to missions, which include the following.

1. *purse Gk #905 balantion (bal-an-tee-on) it is a pouch for money

2. *money Gk #694 argurion (ar-goo-ree-on) it is silvery as silver drachma or shekel, cash

3. *bread Gk #740 artos (ar-tos) it is a loaf of raised bread

4. *scrip Gk #4082 pera (pay-rah) it is a wallet or leather pouch for food

5. *shoes Gk #5266 hupodema (hoop-od-ay-may) it is something round under the feet like a shoe or sandal

6. *coats Gk #5509 chiton (khee-tone) it is a tunic, shirt, clothing or garments

7. *sword Gk #3162 mahaira (makh-ahee-rah) it is a knife or dirk figurative of war or judicial punishment

8. *staves Gk #4464 rhabdos (hrab-dos) it is a stick, wand, cudgel, cane, rod, staff, scepter or baton of royalty

Spiritually speaking, Christ did advise that He came with a SWORD to invoke war and not peace with His adversaries. That SWORD is His Word, which was imparted to Him from Yahweh. [Mt 10:34; 12:45-50] Genuine messengers of Yahweh must remain aware that not everyone in their audience welcomes them. There may times they will need to physically defend themselves or take precautions to recognize ways of escape from opposers sent by Lucifer. [Rm 12:17, 18; I Cor 13:10]

Prayer for Deliverance from Temptation

In [Lk 22:39-46, 63-71] Jesus Christ emphasizes the need to ask Yahweh for deliverance from TEMPTATION. Ironically, the primary reason for this prayer is protection from one’s own mortal weakness.

*temptation Gk #3986 peirasmos (pi-ras-mos) it is adversity, a putting to proof by experiment of good or by experience of evil

In [Lk 23:1-3, 14-17, 22] Apostle Luke notes treasonous accusation against Christ due to His claim of being King over Israel. Legally, this appeared to be an act of treason toward Caesar, as he was the former ruler over Israel at the time.
However, Pontius Pilate who initially oversaw the case, did not find Christ guilty of this or any crime. Thus, he referred the issue to another magistrate by the name of Herod Antipas. Ironically, he too found no reason to convict Christ of treasonous allegation. It was the will of Christ’s Own countryman to have Him put to death. [Lk 23:18, 19, 21, 23-25] As verified in Eusebius’s Ecclesiastical History, Christ told those who mourned Him His public humiliation not to do so for Him but for the WOES that were about to befall Israel and the whole world. [Lk 23:26-31]
Jesus Christ Arose and was Manifested

In [Lk 24] Apostle Luke notes that the mortal body of Jesus Christ was not in the sepulcher where it was laid. [Lk 24:3, 12, 24, 36-43] He notes that angelic beings do exist and can manifest themselves to and communicate with mortals when necessary. [Lk 24:4-8, 23] The passage expresses that Christ can be in one’s midst disguised as another person. [Lk 24:13-32] It also notes that Christ always referred to the scriptures that spoke of Him, even after His resurrection. This is the primary practice of all true Christian teachers. [Lk 24:25-32, 44-48] It is why born-again believers must continue in effective scriptural study. [Jn 8:31, 32; II Tim 2:15, 24-26] It is the only way they can effectively baptize disciples into the Body of Christ. [Mt 28:18-20] Finally, the passage notes that the disciples who experienced the visitation of Christ after His resurrection, also witnessed His Ascension back to Yahweh. These personal experiences were instrumental in securing their undying devotion to Christ and empowered them to be the triumphant overcomers they were for His cause and Creed. [Lk 24:50-53]
