Letter of Apostle Luke – The Gospel
An Intimate Review
Pt 2
By Lawrence DeMetrius
Spiritual and Physical Healing
In [Lk 4:33a] Apostle Luke writes of a person attending a synagogue who was possessed by a DEVIL. This gives credence to the idea that one should not assume a church going person could not be in need of deliverance from demonic possession.
*devil Gk #1140 daimonion (dahee-mone-ee-on) it is a demonic being or deity
In [Lk 4:33b-37, 41] the DEVIL cried out with a loud voice, “Let US alone. What have WE to do with Thee Thou Jesus of Nazareth? Art Thou come to destroy US? I know Thee Who Thou art; the Holy One of Yahweh.” DEVILS recognize and respond to Christ and His brethren. They recognize Christ as the Holy One of Yahweh but not as Yahweh. When true sons of GOD walk in the fullness of their divine authority, DEVILS will respond to their rebuke and command to hold their peace and depart from their victims. In [Lk 4:34-44] Apostle Luke notes that not only are the sons of GOD authorized to cast out DEVILS, but they can REBUKE sicknesses that plague the mortal body, as did Christ the fever that afflicted the body of Apostle Peter’s mother-in-law.
The Call to Christian Life and Service
In [Lk 5:2-11] Apostle Luke notes something special about the callings of Peter, James and John. When Christ initially called them to discipleship, they were at work in their secular profession as fisherman. Anything there was to know about fishing they knew it. Christ utilized this affinity to gain their attention by performing an extraordinary feat when fishing. In so doing, they were able to quickly recognize that He was no ordinary Person and deserved their utmost attention. The fishermen were so moved by the act He performed that they willingly retired from their vocation to follow Him at His request. This gives credence to the idea that Christ meets one where they are when He reveals to them His glory.
Christ expresses reverent regard of one’s personal disposition to receive reverent regard in return. He then reveals His value to them in a way that is meaningful in their perspective. In so doing, He assures them of His ability to make wonderful things happen in and through their lives. From that moment on His words and works prove that He is worthy of their faith and devotion.
Jesus Christ Wills to Heal
In [Lk 5:12-35] Jesus Christ miraculously heals one from cancer. While teaching on a certain day, Pharisees and doctorates of the Mosaic Law came from major cities to hear Him teach. Although His ability to heal was apparent and available to all, these Hebrew leaders forfeited their healing opportunity due to their irreverence toward Christ. They also opposed the idea of Him having authority to grant forgiveness. However, the healing of one sick with palsy proved His ability to heal and forgive one of their sins. None of these Pharisees and Doctorates of Mosaic Law could perceive divine revelation. Because of this they were not able to receive divine healing for their mind or body. All who receive healing from Christ are assured that healing from the power of sin is greatest of healings. To acquire it one has only to believe Christ for and receive it. One must never allow another person’s ill judgment of Christ to keep them from believing in Him. To further express His willingness to serve those in need of healing, Christ accepted an invitation to a party hosted at the home of Levi a Tax Collector, who also became Apostle Matthew. As a well-known tax professional, Levi kept company with people of various lifestyles prior to his conversion. When the Pharisees and Scribes saw Christ interacting with these people their distaste for Him enhanced. Nevertheless, Christ merrily engaged with this audience at Levi’s gala, which expressed that He has no problem interacting with those in need of His service. Christ declared that He did not come for the righteous but for those who needed healing from the power of sin. In fact, He enjoys making His acquaintance with people who know they have a problem with sin and are open being healed of it.
Jesus Christ The New Way
In [Lk 5:36-39] Christ uses The Parable of The New and Old Wind to expound upon the idea appropriateness. The parable teaches that it is always appropriate to put things in proper perspective i.e., OLD with the OLD and NEW with the NEW.
He teaches that intermingling certain things like putting OLD WINE in NEW BOTTLES can create unfortunate circumstances. He notes that most WINE connoisseurs prefer OLD or VINTAGE WINE in its proper setting. Per this parable, Christ wanted His audience to know that He did not come to destroy The Mosaic Law but to fulfill the righteousness thereof by becoming The New Way of remedying sin active within the mortal nature. [Isa 9:2, 6, 7; Rm 3:23-26; 5:18, 19; 10:1-4]
Jesus Christ Lord of the Sabbath
In [Lk 6:1-11] Apostle Luke writes about an incident where the disciples of Christ were accused of doing something unlawful according The Mosaic Law. They were picking and eating corn on The Sabbath Day. Christ used this experience to challenge the scriptural knowledge of the Pharisees. He referred to the occurrence of King David and his company eating what was only lawful for Priests to eat per The Mosaic Law. [Deut 23:25] In so doing, He decreed His Lordship over The Mosaic Law, which expressed His authority over The Sabbath Day. [Dan 7:13, 14; Mt 28:18; I Cor 15:24-28; Phil 2:5-11] Christ clarified to His audience, which included these unbelieving Pharisees, that it is always right to do what is right regardless of what day it is. Apostle Luke notes that Christ performed another miraculous healing. However, in this scenario He required the beneficiary to perform an act of faith. This act admonishes all who desire divine gratuities to never let the unbelief of others discourage them from expressing their faith in Christ. It is always right to put faith in the Lord, Who rules over The Sabbath and all things in heaven and on earth. [Mt 28:18]
Divine Appointments in the Church of Jesus Christ
In [Lk 6:12-16] Apostle Luke notes that Christ had many disciples, twelve of which He appointed as leaders. It is important to note that while Christ equally loved all of His disciples, He does not appoint all of them to the office of an apostle.
Nevertheless, every disciple is to be confident and active in the office He appoints them to within His Body. [Mt 25:15; Rm 12:1-13; Eph 4:7]
The Beatitudes
In [Lk 6:20-26] Apostle Luke gives his rendition of The Beatitudes of Jesus Christ. In this passage, Christ addresses first century Christians, many of whom would undergo decades of great tribulation due to their allegiance to Him. As their Chief Apostle, Christ would be the first to endure such persecution. [Heb 12:1, 2] The Beatitudes are the hallmark of characteristics applicable to genuine disciples of Jesus Christ. In Yahweh’s perspective, anyone who conforms to these attributes are BLESSED. Apostle Luke writes,
