Letter of Apostle Paul – II Corinthians
An Intimate Review
Pt 1
By Lawrence DeMetrius

Divine Comfort and Suffering

In [II Cor 1:1-11; 11:16-32; 12:5, 10] Apostle Paul expresses the divineness of comfort and suffering while serving in Christian Ministry. One must always beware that Yahweh is in control and will never allow more upon HIS children than they can bear. [I Cor 10:13] HIS mercies daily empower them to overcome all challenges they may encounter from evil. [Lam 3:22, 23; Mt 6:34; Jn 16:33; I Pet 4:19] Apostle Paul writes,

For our REJOICING is this, the TESTIMONY of our CONSCIENCE that in SIMPLICITY and godly SINCERITY, not with FLESHLY wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our CONVERSATION in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
[II Cor 1:12-24; 2:14-17; 3; 7:2-16]

*rejoicing Gk #2746 kauchsis (kow-khay-sis) it is boasting in a good or bad sense

*testimony Gk #3142 marturion (mar-too-ree-on) it is something evidential and evidence given

*conscience Gk #4893 suneidesis (soon-i-day-sis) it is co-perception and moral consciousness

*simplicity Gk #572 haplotes (hap-lot-ace) it is…
• singleness and sincerity that is without dissimulation or self-seeking
• generosity and copious bestowal

o copious means…
 large in quantity or number
 abundant and plentiful
 having and yielding in abundant supply
 exhibiting abundance and fullness in thoughts or words

o bestowal means…
 to present as a gift or put to use
 give, confer and apply

This reflects the fruit of KINDNESS, which is being useful and beneficial to others.

*sincerity Gk #1505 eilikrineia (i-lik-ree-ni-ah) it is clearness and purity

This refers to the quality of transparency whereby one can recognize a TREE by its FRUIT, per the teaching of Jesus Christ. [Mt 7:15-20; I Jn 4:1-6] It also reflects how a good person brings forth the good treasure of their heart. [Mt 12:34-37] Teachers who are truly sent by Yahweh are careful to avoid obscuring the message HE desires to relay to their audiences, especially The Gospel of Jesus Christ. They strive to relay HIS message as simplistically as possible. Thus, Apostle Paul writes,

Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great PLAINESS of speech:
[II Cor 3:12; Isa 50:4; Dan 12:3, 10]

*plainness Gk #3954 parrhesia (par-rhay-see-ah) it is all out-spokenness, frankness, bluntness, publicity and assurance

In [II Cor 1:12] Apostle Paul refers to the carnal nature, which is set to please only itself. Therefore, it is not and cannot be subject even unto Yahweh. [Rm 8:5-7; I Jn 2:15-17] Apostle Paul clarifies that Yahweh’s Word is not founded in the wisdom of the spiritually unregenerate, who view The Gospel of Christ as foolishness. [I Cor 1:18] This is so because their wisdom is FLESHLY.

*fleshly Gk #4559 sarkikos (sar-kee-kos) it is that which…
• pertains to the flesh nature
• is bodily, temporal and animalistic
• carnal and unregenerate

It is because of what Yahweh’s GRACE imparted unto them, that HIS teachers have their CONVERSATION in this world.
HIS GRACE abounds more abundantly towards them who are appointed to influence mortals with their personal TESTIMONY and LIFESTYLE. [Mt 5:19; I Cor 9:27; Gal 6:7-9; Jam 1:21-25]

*grace Gk #5485 charis (khar-ece) it is…
• gratitude and graciousness as gratifying of manner or act
• divine influence upon the heart and its reflection in one’s life

*conversation Gk #390 anastrepho (an-as-tref-o) it means to…
• live, abide and behave oneself
• remain, busy oneself, overturn and overthrow
• be used, pass and return

In [II Cor 1:22] Apostle Paul notes that because true teachers of GOD discipline themselves to practice godly speech and righteous living, HE SEALS them with the EARNEST of the Holy Ghost within their HEARTS. [Eph 1:14; Rm 10:14, 15]

*sealed Gk #4972 sphragizo (sfrag-id-zo) it is to…
• stamp with a signet or private mark for security and preservation
• keep secret and attest which is to…
o manifest, certify and bear witness to
o declare to be correct, true and genuine
o declare the truth of in words or writing
o give proof or evidence of and put on oath

Yahweh provides the Holy Ghost as a SEAL to IDENTIFY and PROVE who HIS true sons and teachers are. While many likenesses can be feigned, the Anointing of the Holy Ghost can never be feigned. [Rm 8:9, 14-16; I Jn 2:27]

*earnest Gk #728 arrhabon (ar-hrab-ohn) it is a pledge and portion of purchase-money or property that is given in advance as security for the rest

In [II Cor 1:15-24; 2:14-17] Apostle Paul teaches that Yahweh always causes HIS beloveds to TRIUMPH in Christ over all their adversaries. [Mt 6:34; Jn 16:33; I Cor 13;13; II Cor 12:10]

*triumph Gk #2358 thriambeuo (three-am-byoo-o) it means to conquer, give victory and make acclamatory procession

Apostle Paul notes that Yahweh makes the SAVOUR of KNOWLEDGE HE imparts through HIS teachers evident throughout the world in every generation. [Act 1:8; II Cor 4:3-7; Rm 10:14, 15] Apostle Paul likens The Gospel of Jesus Christ to a Life-giving SPIRIT, which is confirmed by Christ Himself. [Jn 6:63] It is a WORD that can only be heard and received by those who are predestined to conceive it. [Dan 12:10; Jn 6:37-40, 44, 45, 65; 8:38, 42-47; I Cor 1:18, 23, 24; II Tim 2:24-26] It is a WORD that is unlike that of the OLD letter, the Mosaic Law, which KILLETH. This is so of the Mosaic Law because it only makes one aware of sin and is unable to deliver from the power thereof. [II Cor 3:6, 8, 17; Rm 1:16, 17; 8:1-4]

*letter Gk #1121 gramma (gram-mah) it is a writing, note, book and a learning

*spirit Gk #4151 pneuma (pnyoo-mah) it is…
• a current of air, breath, blast or breeze
• the human rational soul and vital principle
• the mortal mind and mental disposition [Phil 2:5 Gk #5426 phroneho]
• an angelic being and member of The Triune Godhead

*life Gk #2222 zoe (dzo-ay) it is life and a life-time

*killeth Gk #615 apokteino (ap-ok-ti-no) it means to outright destroy and kill

In [II Cor 3:6, 8, 17; Jn 3:16; 19; 10:10b] Apostle Paul notes that there is no death in Christ the Word. Although He now holds the power of life and death in His Hands, Christ offers only salvation to all souls. [St Jn 1:4; 3:16, 18; I Jn 5:10-13] Thus, death and condemnation abide only upon those who refuse His gift. [Gen 2:9, 17; 3:1-6, 15; St Jn 3:19, 36; Gal 4:4-7] In [II Cor 3:13-18] Apostle Paul expounds upon the blindness of the Hebrews who rejected Christ as the New Way of salvation. He explained that only the Holy Ghost can effectively address the ignorance that obscures one’s perception of Christ. This is so for all mortals. [Rm 2:29; 10:9, 10]

Apostle Paul writes,

But we all (born-again believers in Christ), with open face beholding as in a glass the GLORY of THE LORD, are CHANGED into the same IMAGE FROM GLORY TO GLORY, even as by the SPIRIT OF THE LORD.
[Rm 8:29; I Jn 3:3]

The Necessity of Compassion and Forgiveness

In [II Cor 2:1-11] Apostle Paul addresses the restoration of the fallen Christian leader at the Corinthian Church who was guilty of incest. The passage exemplifies how tough words from a grieved yet righteous heart can cause sorrow. While some issues within Christian Assemblies must be firmly addressed, compassion and forgiveness must remain the foundation of such correction. This is necessary in order to conquer the devices of Lucifer, who only seeks to destroy the mortal soul. [II Cor 2:11; Jn 10:10a; Gal 6:1-4, 7-9]
