Letter of Apostle Paul - Philippians
An Intimate Review
Pt 1
By Lawrence DeMetrius

In [Phip 1:6] Apostle Paul mentions a CONFIDENCE that is applicable to every born-again believer. Time has proven that First Century Christians did not experience the Second Advent of Christ. However, they were the first to experience the GOOD WORK that Yahweh initiated and will PERFORM until Christ’s Second Advent. Apostle Paul writes,

Being CONFIDENT of this very thing, that HE which hath begun a good WORK in you will PERFORM it until the day of Jesus Christ:
[Phil 1:6]

*confident Gk #3982 peitho (pi-tho) it means to…
• convince by argument
• pacify and conciliate by fair means
• assent to evidence or authority
• rely on by inward certainty

This is what every born-again believer is admonished to do within their own heart regarding the GOOD WORK Yahweh is doing, which is PERFECTLY conforming their spirit to the image of Christ. Yahweh has obligated HIMSELF to the task of spiritually PERFECTING each of HIS spiritual offspring. [Rm 8:28-30]

*good Gk #18 agathos (ag-ath-os) (adj) it means good which is…
• morally excellent, virtuous and righteous
• pious, satisfactory in quality, quantity and degree
• of high quality, excellent, beneficial and well

*perform Gk# 2005 epiteleo (ep-ee-tel-eh-o) it means to…

This PERFECTING will continue and be complete after one’s transition to immortality. [Jn 15:1-5; Jam 1:2-4; Eccl 12:6, 7; Phil 3:19, 20a; I Cor 15:50]
Until then, one will remain vulnerable to sin due to the infirmity of their sin flawed mortal nature. [Rm 3:23; 6:19; 7:14-25; 8:5-7] During this process, Yahweh has made Christ to be the Hope and Glory HE expects each of HIS sons to be. [II Cor 12:9; Rm 3:24-26; I Jn 3:1-3] When they experience short comings, they must recall that Yahweh is greater in might and that HE loves them beyond their short comings. [I Jn 3:20, 21] THE LORD will always grant them forgiveness as they practice repentance and forgiveness towards others. [I Jn 1:8-10; 2:1, 2; Mt 6:12, 14, 15; Ps 66:18] Because of this grace they can confidently run to HIM through Christ for help they require in time of need. [Heb 4:16] In [Phil 1:9] Apostle Paul expounds upon sentiments he had for the Saints at Philippi, which convey to all born-again believers. He prayed that divine LOVE, KNOWLEDGE and JUDGMENT would increasingly ABOUND within them.

*love Gk #26 agape (ag-ah-pay) it is divine love, affection, benevolence and a feast celebrating such love

• love is a…
o profoundly tender and passionate affection for another person

o act or an instance of discerning, which is to…
 perceive by intellect, sight or some other sense

 mentally distinguish and discriminate

Per [Phil 1:10a] Apostle Paul prayed that the Elect might APPROVE THINGS that are EXCELLENT.

*approve Gk #1381 dokimazo (dok-im-ad-zo) it means to test and approve

*excellent Gk #1308 diaphero (dee-af-er-o) it means to…
• bear through, transport and bear apart
• toss about, differ and surpass

The primary way to effectively APPROVE things as EXCELLENT is to remain reliant upon the unction of the Holy Ghost and diligent in effective scriptural study. [I Jn 2:18-29; 4:1-6; Jn 8:12, 31, 32, 36; II Tim 2:15; 3:16-18; Rm 12:3] Per [Phil 1:10b] Apostle Paul prayed that the Elect might be SINCERE and without OFFENCE until the Second Advent of Christ or until they transition to immortality.

*sincere Gk #1506 eilikrines (i-lik-ree-nace) it means clear and pure

*offence Gk #677 aproskopos (ap-ros-kop-os) it means inoffensive, faultless and not leading or being led into sin

OFFENCE is a word that describes something. In this scripture, it denotes the possibility of one missing the mark of EXCELLENCE due to divine LOVE WAXING COLD within their heart. Christ warned that this would happen in the hearts of many in the last days due to iniquity increasing. [Mt 24:12, 13] Where there is lack of SINCERITY and divine LOVE, INIQUITY is sure to ABOUND. [I Jn 2:15-17; Rev 2:4, 5] Knowing this, born-again believers must do what they must to maintain genuine SINCERITY and be without OFFENCE. In [Phil 1:11], Apostle Paul prayed that the brethren of Christ would be filled with the FRUITS of RIGHTEOUSNESS through Christ, to the GLORY and PRAISE of Yahweh.

*filled Gk #4137 pleroo (play-ro-o) it means to…
• make replete, cram into and level up as if a hollow
• furnish, imbue and diffuse
• influence, satisfy and execute an office
• finish a period or task
• verify or coincide with a prediction

*fruit Gk #2590 karpos (kar-pos) it is fruit as plucked

*righteousness Gk #1343 dikaisosune (dik-ah-yos-soo-nay) it means to render, show or regard as just and innocent

These FRUITS are good works and deeds performed by Yahweh’s Elect. They prove that born-again believers are established in Yahweh through Christ, and cannot be performed by the children of disobedience. [St Jn 3:20; Tit 1:15, 16] [Mt 5:16; St Jn 3:21; Tit 2:13, 14; I Pet 2:5, 9]

*glory Gk #1391 doxa (dox-ah) it is very apparent glory

*praise Gk #1868 epainos (ep-ahee-nos) it is laudation and a commendable thing

Per [Phil 1:11; Jn 14:12] the WORKS, DEEDS and FRUIT that Christ empowers His brethren to perform are purposed to glorify Yahweh. This is one reason why they are to celebrate and walk worthy of them.
It is an awesome opportunity to represent Yahweh on earth, WHO is the ONLY TRUE GOD and HIS Christ. While it is commendable to celebrate the working of Christ within another person’s life, it is even more important to celebrate what Christ is accomplishing in one’s own life as a King and Priest of Yahweh. [Rev 1:5, 6] In [Phil 1:12-30] Apostle Paul reiterates that persecution for effectively proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ actually enhances it. He notes that it is given to faithful Christian witnesses to believe in and suffer on the behalf of Christ and His Testimony. [Phil 1:29; Mt 16:24-28; Jn 15:18, 24, 25; 16:33; 17:14]
