Letter of Apostle Paul – II Timothy
An Intimate Review
Pt 6
By Lawrence DeMetrius

In [II Tim 4:1, 2] Apostle Paul in his charge before THE DIVINE to Pastor Timothy offers advice that is applicable to all born-again believers. It is to PREACH Yahweh’s WORD, not one’s own or someone else’s, especially which pertains to Christ. [Rm 1:1-5; Mt 28:19, 20; I Cor 2:1-5; II Cor 4:3-7; 10:4, 5; 11:3, 4; Gal 1:6-9]

*preach Gk #2784 kerusso (kay-roos-so) it means to publicly preach and herald, especially the Good News of Jesus Christ

*word Gk #3056 logos (log-os) it is…
• something said including the thought

• motive or computation, which is the making sense of a thing
• Divine Expression as Christ the Word

Apostle Paul clarifies that PREACHING is publicly HERALDING a specific message, namely the Good News about Jesus the Christ, which is the honorable duty placed upon the Elect of GOD. [Eno 37:1-5; Isa 50:4; Dan 12:3, 10; Mt 5:14-16, 19; 10:27; 28:19, 20] In ages wherein many WORDS have been, are and will be PREACHED, they who teach and obey Yahweh’s WORD, especially about Jesus the Christ, can expect to be severely hated, despised and persecuted. Nonetheless, the Elect are expected to do so. [Mt 5:11, 12; 6:34] Apostle Paul tells them how and why they are to PREACH per the following.

1. Be INSTANT IN and OUT OF SEASON.

*instant Gk #2186 ephistemi (ef-is-tay-mee) it means to stand upon and be present

This is to be ready, willing and able to PREACH the WORD of THE LORD even when circumstances are personally uncomfortable and inconvenient.

2. Always do so in a manner that nurtures to the spiritual well-being of Yahweh’s Elect.

*rebuke Gk #2008 epitmao (ep-ee-tee-mah-o) it is to censure, admonish, forbid and tax upon, which is to lay a burden on, make serious demands on and take to task

o the act of consoling and comforting
o solace, the state of being consoled and someone who consoles, which is to alleviate or lessen grief, sorrow and disappointment of

No one can effectively REPROVE, REBUKE or EXHORT Yahweh’s people in a manner that pleases HIM without effective impartation of HIS WORDS and sentiment. All souls belong to THE LORD, for whom HE sacrificed HIS only Begotten Son. [St Jn 3:16, 17] No one is to judge any of them as if they were Christ, Who is the only One authorized to do so on The Final Day of Judgment. [Act 17:28, 30b, 31; Mt 7:1-5; Jn 7:24; Rm 14:10; I Cor 4:1-5; II Cor 5:10; Eph 4:29; Gal 6:1-3, 7] When it comes to PREACHING Yahweh’s WORD, one’s personal opinion has no weight and is not to be expressed while speaking as HIS Oracle. [Isa 50:4; Eph 4:29]

*longsuffering Gk #3115 makrothumia (mak-roth-oo-mee-ah) it is longanimity, forbearance and fortitude

• longanimity is patient endurance of hardship, injuries and offense
• forbearance is…
o the act of forbearing and a refraining from something
o forbearing conduct and quality
o patient endurance and self-control
o an abstaining from the enforcement of a right
• fortitude is mental and emotional strength in courageously facing difficulty, adversity, danger and temptation

*doctrine Gk #1322 didache (did-akh-ay) it is the act and matter of instruction or taught doctrine

In [II Tim 4:3] Apostle Paul discusses why one must PREACH the WORD of GOD a certain way, especially the Gospel of Jesus Christ. [Rm 1:1-4] He writes,

For the TIME will come when they will not ENDURE SOUND DOCTRINE; but after their own LUSTS shall they HEAP to themselves TEACHERS, having ITCHING EARS;
[II Tim 4:3]

*ears Gk #189 akoe (ak-o-ay) it is the act and sense of hearing and the thing heard

In these last days, people are actually seeking out TEACHERS that will pacify them with WORDS that are only agreeable to their carnal nature, knowing that such Intel is not true according to Yahweh’s WORD as TAUGHT by HIS scribes and prophets, from Enoch to Jesus Christ and His Original Apostles. This also gives credence to the idea that mortals are always looking for something to believe in. Thus, when teachers of Yahweh are presented opportunities to expound upon HIS WORD, they are to do so in meekness, humility, respect and utmost simplicity. Apostle Paul continues to expound upon why Yahweh’s WORD must be PREACHED a certain way writing,

And they shall TURN AWAY their ears from the truth, and shall be TURNED UNTO FABLES.
[II Tim 4:4]

*turn away/unto Gk #654 apostrepho (ap-os-tref-o) it means to turn away or back

*fable Gk #3454 muthos (moo-thos) it is a tale, fiction and myth

In these last days many people are dismissing DIVINE TRUTH to seek out and embrace FABLES, in the form of philosophies that have no factual grounding. These vain seekers only embrace FABLES because they pacify and validate their carnal desires. [Rm 8:5-7; I Jn 2:15-17] The risk of this vain practice is the possibility of being turned over to a REPROBATE MIND, whereby they will embrace the lies they chose to entertain as DIVINE TRUTH. [Rm 1:28; II Thes 2:11] Because of this, Apostle Paul admonished Pastor Timothy and all true teachers of The Christian Faith to WATCH in ALL THINGS and ENDURE AFFLICTIONS. [II Tim 4:5]

*watch Gk #3525 nepho (nay-fo) it means to abstain from wine and keep sober, which is…
• not intoxicated or drunk
• habitually temperate, quiet and sedate in demeanor, speech and self-control
• be marked with seriousness, gravity and solemnity
• free from excess, extravagance or exaggeration
• discreet, sane and rational minded

*endure afflictions Gk #2553 kakopatheo (kak-op-ath-eh-o) it means to undergo hardship

Apostle Paul advises the Elect to DO the WORK of an EVANGELIST, which any Christian can do no matter what their primary calling in Christ may be. EVANGELIZING is simply sharing The Good News with people who reverently inquire of them about it. [II Tim 2:24-26; Rm 10:10-17]

*work Gk # 2041 ergon (er-gon) it is an act and toil as an effort or occupation

*evangelist Gk #2099 euaggelistes (yoo-ang-ghel-is-tace) it is a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ

The Elect are to MAKE FULL PROOF of their MINISTRIES.

*full proof Gk #4135 plerophoreo (play-rof-or-eh-o) it means to…
• carry out fully in evidence, completely assure and convince
• entirely accomplish and most surely believe
• fully know and persuade

*ministry #1248 diakonia (dee-ak-on-ee-ah) it is…
• attendance as a servant
• eleemosynary aid, which means…
o charitable, of or relating to alms, charity and charitable donations
o derived or provided by charity
o dependent on or supported by charity
• the official service of a Christian teacher or deacon

In conclusion of this Lexical-Syntactical Analysis of Apostle Paul’s letter to Pastor Timothy, footnoted in the 5th Approved Edition of the Thompson Chain Study Bible, Timothy was the first ordained Bishop of the Church in Ephesus. This gives credence to the theme of Apostle Paul’s letters to Pastor Timothy. Apostle Paul is a prime example of service rendered by a genuine SPIRITUAL FATHER to a SPIRITUAL SON in The Christian community. Apostle Paul was fully committed to Timothy’s spiritual well-being and success in Christian ministry. Apostle Paul knew that his transition to immortality was near. Thus, as a SPIRITUAL FATHER to Timothy, he was fine tuning the instructions Timothy was to faithfully carry out after his transition. Apostle Paul notes in his final words that there are some who start out well as Christian ministers but rescind their allegiance to the work and he did not want Timothy to fail in his personal devotion to Jesus Christ and the work divinely entrusted to him as a witness of Christ. [II Tim 4:6-22; I Jn 2:12-14]
