Letter of Apostle Paul
An Intimate Review
Philemon
By Lawrence DeMetrius
In his letter to Philemon a friend and brother in Christ, Apostle Paul advocates on behalf of Onesimus, a runaway slave who was owned by Philemon. Onesimus became a Christian as well and of great profitability in Christian ministry. Apostle Paul notes his prayer for Philemon writing,
That the COMMUNICATION of thy FAITH may become EFFECTUAL BY THE ACKNOWLEDING of EVERY GOOD THING which is in you in Christ Jesus.
[vs 6]
*communication Gk #2842 koinonia (koy-nohn-ee-ah) it is…
• partnership, participation and social intercourse
• pecuniary benefaction, contribution and distribution
• communication and fellowship
All of this has to do with sharing the spiritual and natural substance bestowed upon one through Christ by Yahweh. Every member of the Body of Christ is endowed with something of value they can impart to others, namely the FAITH of Jesus Christ and then of natural substance. [Gal 2:16, 20]
*faith Gk #4102 pistis (pis-tis) it is…
• persuasion and credence
• moral conviction of a religious truth, truthfulness of Yahweh or of a religious teacher
• reliance upon Christ for salvation and constancy of such profession
• the system of religious truth based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ
*effectual Gk #1756 energes (en-er-gace) it means active, operative and powerful
*acknowledging Gk #1922 epignosis (ep-ig-no-sis) it means recognition, full discernment and acknowledgment
Apostle James writes that FAITH without works is dead meaning ineffectual and powerless. [Jam 2:17, 18, 26] Christ also said that the WORKS He did, His Disciples will do also. [Jn 14:12] It is imperative for Christians to rightly acknowledge what is in them in Christ Jesus. Per Apostle John they are indeed in this world as was Christ. [I Jn 4:17]
