Letter to the Hebrews
An Intimate Review
Pt 9
By Lawrence DeMetrius

In [Heb 12:1] the scribe notes that what satanic forces seek the most is the destruction of one’s FAITH in Yahweh’s Word. It is the one thing their influence cannot penetrate. Thus, they must work to persuade one to willingly relinquish it. [Jn 10:10; Eph 6:16; I Jn 5:4] After presenting examples of genuine FAITH expressed by past patriarchs, the scribe admonishes the Elect to follow suit by letting no one and no circumstance to diminish their FAITH writing,

Wherefore seeing we also are COMPASSED ABOUT with so great a cloud of WITNESSES, let us lay aside every WEIGHT, and THE SIN that doth so easily BESET us, and let us RUN with PATIENCE the RACE that is SET before us,

One’s FAITH in THE LORD will be tested not only for their own benefit but for a witness to all that oppose FAITH in THE LORD. [Mt 4:1-11; Jn 16:33; I Cor 10:13; I Pet 5:10]

[Heb 11:6; Pro 1:7; 8:17-21; 35, 36; St Jn 3:19, 36; Rm 6:23; II Tim 2:24-26] ENDURED is what Christ did per His Passion at Calvary and all that led up to it. He ENDURED these things for the sake of all mortals, especially those who were predestined to become sons of GOD from the foundation of the world. [St Jn 3:16; I Jn 2:1, 2; Heb 2:9-18; St Jn 1:11-13; 6:37-40, 44, 45, 65; 8:47; 10:26; 17:9, 10; Rm 8:28-30]

*mind Gk #5590 psuche (psoo-khay) it is breath, spirit and the animal sentient principle only…referring to the natural human psyche [Mt 26:41; Rm 7:14-25]

The scribe notes at [Heb 12:4] that while the Elect are always at risk of suffering persecution due to their allegiance to Christ, most of them have not RESISTED unto blood in STRIVING against sin as have many in the past. It was well-known from the time of Christ’s Ascension, that many false teachers would arise to promote erroneous Christian doctrines. Many of which endeavor to make merchandise of weak-minded Christians. These imposters are likened to SPIRITUAL PROSTITUES who do this evil work for filthy lucre wherever they can. [Mt 24:5, 7, 11, 23; II Pet 2:3; I Jn 2:18-28] They have no definitive code of ethical or moral conduct. The rule of thumb for them is, anything goes. In [Heb 12:18-29] the scribe reiterates that the Elect of latter days are graced with a gentler enforcement of Yahweh’s law of holiness then were generations of the past. Christ’s Passion at Calvary has given end-time believers an easier pass into divine REST. Of this the scribe writes,

But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels. To the general assembly and church of the Firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of men made perfect. And to Jesus the Mediator of the New Covenant, and to the Blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
[Heb 12:22-24]

Those who obtain this REST through Christ have no need to seek another Way thereinto. [Heb 12:22-24; Mt 11:27-30; Lk 12:31, 32; Jn 10:1; 14:1-6, 27; Rm 14:17; Rev 3:7, 8] They have but to remain there by FAITH filled obedience to Yahweh. The scribe writes,

See that ye refuse not HIM that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from HIM that speaketh from heaven:
WHOSE voice then shook the earth: but now HE hath promised, saying, yet once more, I shake not the earth only, but also heaven:
And this word, yet once more, signifieth the removing of those that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God ACCEPTABLY with reverence and godly fear:
For our God is a consuming fire.
[Heb 12:25-29]
