Letter of Apostle James
An Intimate Review
Pt 8
By Lawrence DeMetius

In [Jam 5:1-6] Apostle James expresses sentiments that are similar to those of Enoch concerning wicked mortals who happen to be wealthy and influential in their generation. [Eno 53, 54, 94:6-11; 96:6; 98] The point is that the greatest of hurts inflicted upon the general public and the earth is done by their hands. Their practices are motivated to satisfy the lusts of their carnal minds. Although Divine Iconoclasm is offered to them as it is to all mortals, they forfeit it to indulge in temporal pleasures of idolatry, sorcery and witchcraft. They do anything to acquire these pleasures at the cost of satanic worship and inheriting The Second Death. [Mt 6:24; 10:26-28; 16:26; St Jn 3:19, 20, 36; I Tim 6:6-10; Mt 4:1-11; 6:19-21; Col 3:1, 2; I Jn 2:15-17] On The Final Day of Judgment, they will be rewarded with hurt that is far worse than the hurt they inflicted on others during their mortal lifetimes. [Isa 45:7; Rev 20:10-15] Apostle James writes,

Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver are cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which are of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of THE LORD of Sabaoth. Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your heart, as in a day of slaughter. Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.
[Jam 5:1-6]

In [Jam 5:7, 8; 2:1-4] Apostle James reiterates PATIENCE using the husbandman as an example. A husbandman cultivates his field and sow seed therein. However, only Yahweh can send early and latter rains upon it. This gives credence to the idea that there are processes that only THE LORD can orchestrate. Thus, divine PATIENCE is inevitable during necessary processes. [Heb 11:1, 6] Divine PATIENCE is pre-requisite to receive The Crown of Eternal Life, which is promised to all those who LOVE THE LORD. [Rev 3:8, 10]

In [Jam 5:9-12] Apostle James addresses proper speech and conduct while under duress at the hand of wicked persons who happen to be rich in this world. This is especially so when being ill judged of others. One must remain mindful of the LORD’S FAITHFULNESS to those who trust in HIS Word. The Elect are to remain honest, simple and without zeal that may cause them to SWEAR unnecessarily. [Mt 5:34-37]

*swear Gk #3660 omnuo (om-noo-o) it means to swear, take or declare on an oath

SWEARING is not necessary for people of integrity. Like Yahweh, they are not liars. Their word is a reliable. [Num 23:19; Heb 6:18] PATIENCE helps one to control their SPEAKING, especially when under duress. In [Jam 5:13a] Apostle James gives remedies for born-again believers in these situations writing,

Is any among you AFFLICED? Let him PRAY.
[Jam 5:13a]

*afflicted Gk #2553 kakopatheo (kak-op-ath-eh-o) it means undergoing hardship

*pray Gk #4336 proseuchomai (pros-yoo-khom-ahee) it means to pray, supplicate and worship to Yahweh

PRAYER unto Yahweh is what one is to do when UNDERGOING HARDSHIP. [Jam 1:2-4; Ps 34:19; Mt 6:34; Jn 16:33; I Cor 10:13; II Tim 3:12; Heb 2:18; 5:8; I Pet 4:19; 5:10] Apostle James writes,

Is any MERRY? Let him SING PSALMS.
[Jam 5:13b]

*merry Gk #2114 euthumeo (yoo-thoo-meh-o) it means to cheer up, be cheerful and more cheerfully

*sing psalms Gk #5567 psallo (psal-lo) it means to twitch, twang, play on a stringed instrument and celebrate in divine worship with music and odes, which are enthusiastic lyrics and poems that are intended to be sung

While singing to Yahweh is always appropriate, it is especially so when one is MERRY. [Eph 5:19; Col 3:16, 17] Apostle James writes,

Is any SICK among you? Let him CALL FOR the ELDERS of the church; and let them PRAY OVER him, ANOINTING him with OIL in the NAME of THE LORD.
[Jam 5:14]

*sick (1) Gk #770 astheneo (as-then-eh-o) it means to in any sense be feeble, which is…
• frail or physically weak, as from age or sickness
• intellectually or morally weak
• lacking in volume, loudness, brightness and distinctness
• lacking in force, strength or effectiveness

*call Gk #4341 proskaleomai (pros-kal-eh-om-ahee) it means to call toward oneself, summon or invite

*pray over Gk #1909 epi (ep-ee) it is…
• superimposition of time, place and order
• a relation of distribution with the general i.e., over and upon
• direction toward or upon

*name Gk #3686 onoma (on-om-ah) it is one’s unique name, authority and character

*anointing Gk #218 aleipho (al-i-fo) it means to oil with perfume

Per this statement and definition, it is the personal responsibility of FEEBLE persons to reach out for PRAYER. Christ has mandated them who are spiritually FEEBLE and desire relief to come to Him for it. He does not force anyone to come to Him nor does He require His witnesses to usurp His message on anyone. [Mt 11:28; Mt 7:6; II Tim 2:24-26] The FEEBLE is admonished to seek PRAYER with those who are mature in Christ. It is one thing to have random people PRAY but altogether another when people who are considered righteous in Yahweh’s perspective, PRAYS on one’s behalf.
When such people petition Yahweh on another person’s behalf, their clout with THE LORD enhances the probability of receiving what they desire of HIM. [Rm 8:26, 27; Eph 6:18] Apostle James then writes,

And the PRAYER OF FAITH SHALL SAVE the SICK, and THE LORD SHALL RAISE him up: and if he hath committed SINS, they SHALL BE forgiven him.
[Jam 5:15]

Per his statement, Apostle James declares that three things will happen when TRUE CHRISTIAN ELDERS perform THE PRAYER OF FAITH over a born-again believer who is SICK in any way and desires HEALING from THE LORD.

1. The PRAYER OF FAITH will SAVE the SICK.

*prayer of faith Gk #2171 euche (yoo-khay) it is a wish that is expressed as a petition to Yahweh in votive obligation, which means…
• offered, given and dedicated in accordance with a vow
• performed and undertaken in consequence of a vow
• of the nature of or expressive of a wish or desire

*save Gk #4982 sozo (sod-zo) it means to…
• save, deliver and protect
• heal, preserve and save self
• do well, be and make whole

*sick (2) Gk #2577 kamno (kam-no) it means to toil, tire, faint, sicken and be wearied

2. THE LORD WILL RAISE UP the SICK.

*raise Gk #1453 egeiro (eg-i-ro) it means to waken and literally rouse from sleep, sitting, lying, disease, death, obscurity, inactivity, ruins and nonexistence

All the above is what Yahweh will do for born-again believers who are SICK in any way and desires HEALING from HIM by faith. [Heb 11:1, 6]

3. The SINS of THE SICK will be forgiven.
PRAYER for HEALING serves as an opportunity to generate praise and glory to Yahweh, as well as HIS SAVING and HEALING power. [Eze 18:4, 19-23, 31, 32; II Pet 3:9; Heb 11:1, 6; St Jn 1:11-13; Mt 6:10; I Jn 5:15, 15] When one experiences these spiritual gratuities, they are also AWAKENED to the reality of THE LORD’S judgment on those who fail to obey HIM. [Exo 20:3; 32:30-33; Rev 20:11-15; Eccl 12:13; St Jn 4:23, 24; St Jn 3:14-21, 36] In [Jam 5:16-18] Apostle James expounds upon VERBAL CONFESSION and PRAYER, which emphasizes why the Elect are to practice them on a daily basis. He writes,

CONFESS your FAULTS one to another, and PRAY one for another, that ye may be HEALED.
[Jam 5:16a]

*confess Gk #1843 exomologeo (ex-om-ol-og-eh-o) it means to acknowledge and fully agree by implication of assent

*fault Gk #3900 paraptoma (par-ap-to-mah) it is a side-slip, lapse, deviation, willful transgression or unintentional error

*heal Gk #2390 iaomai (ee-ah-om-ahee) it means to cure and make whole

It is important to know that HEAL or IAOMAI (ee-ah-om-ahee) per this scripture is a verb or action word. It denotes something that the Elect are empowered to do for one another. Eusebius of Caesarea Maritime notes that genuine Christians were known as HEALERS. Also, per their God-given ability to create PEACE in the natural, supernatural and spiritual realms, they are deemed PEACEMAKERS according to Jesus Christ. [Mt 5:9; I Jn 4:17] In [Jam 5:16b] Apostle James likens them to patriarchs like Prophet Elijah, whose might in PRAYER invoked miraculous occurrences in his day. [I Kings 17:20-22; 18:36-38] The PRAYERS of those who are righteous in Yahweh’s perspective can invoke awesome manifestations in the natural, supernatural and spiritual realms. [Rm 8:19-22] Therefore, Apostle James writes,

The EFFECTUAL FERVENT PRAYER of a RIGHTEOUS man AVAILETH MUCH.
[Jam 5:16b]

*effectual Gk #1754 energeo (en-erg-eh-o) it means to be active and efficient
*fervent Eng
• having or showing great warmth, intensity of spirit, feeling and enthusiasm
• hot, burning and glowing

*righteous Gk #1342 dikaios (dik-ah-yos) it means equitable in character and act, innocent and holy

*availeth Gk #2480 ischuo (is-khoo-o) it means to have and exercise force

*much Gk #4183 polus (pol-oos) it means much in any respect, many, largely, often and mostly

Apostle James emphasizes that born-again believers are to liken one another as valuable anchors, witnesses and references when cases are brought before Yahweh concerning them. Apostle John notes that THE LORD only acknowledges the PRAYERS of HIS worshippers. [Jn 9:31] In [Jam 5:19, 20] Apostle James advises the Elect that they are empowered to CONVERT Christians who have ERRED from divine TRUTH. He writes,

Brethren, if any of you do ERR from the TRUTH, and one CONVERT him; Let him know, that he which CONVERTETH the sinner from the ERROR of his WAY shall SAVE a soul from DEATH, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
[Jam 5:19]

*err Gk #4105 planao (plan-ah-o) it means to cause to roam from safety, truth and virtue

*truth Gk #225 aletheia (al-ay-thi-a) it is truth and verity

• truth is…
o the true state and actual state of a matter
o conformity with fact and reality
o a verified and indisputable fact, proposition and principle
o the state and character of being true
o actuality, actual existence, an obvious and accepted fact
o self-evident , honesty, integrity and truthfulness

• verity is…

*soul Gk #5590 psuche (psoo-khay) it is breath, spirit, animal sentient principle only, heart, life and mind

*death Gk #2288 thanatos (than-at-os) it is the…
• act of dying, end of life or extinction
• total and permanent cessation of all vital functions of an organism
• state of being dead and manner of dying or destruction
• spiritual death, meaning loss and absence of spiritual life

Apostle John writes,

And we know that the Son of God is come and hath given us an understanding, that we may know HIM that is true, and we are in HIM that is true, even in HIS Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
[I Jn 5:20]

*hide Gk #2572 kalupto (kal-oop-to) it means to cover up

If Yahweh has not given one over to a reprobate mind, there is always hope for wayward Christian to be CONVERTED back to divine TRUTH. [Eze 3:20; St Jn 3:19, 36; Rm 1:28; Mk 3:28, 29; I Jn 5:16, 17]
