Letter of Apostle James
An Intimate Review
Pt 1
By Lawrence DeMetrius
[Jam 1:1] There were multiple disciples of Jesus Christ with the name of James. There was James the brother of John, James the Less and James the biological half-brother of Jesus Christ. It is James the biological half-brother of Jesus Christ who wrote this letter. Per lexical-syntactical analysis of the letter one’s spiritual relation to THE DIVINE far exceeds sanguinis, tribal and national relations. [Mt 12:46-49; 13:53-58; Jn 7:1-12; Gal 1:19] Jesus Christ Himself had biological relatives who did not believe He was the prophesied Messiah and Son of Yahweh. If this was so for Him surely it will be for His spiritual brethren. [St Jn 1:11-13] How fitting it is for Apostle James to become a major influencer of the Christian Faith, especially as a native Hebrew. Also, that he taught the relevance of character and works that prove one’s familial relationship to Yahweh through Christ as a son. Apostle James writes,
My brethren, COUNT it all JOY when ye FALL into DIVERS TEMPTATIONS;
[Jm 1:2]
*count Gk #2233 hegeomai (hayg-eh-om-ahee) it means to…
• lead and command with official authority

*fall Gk #4045 peripipto (per-ee-pip-to) it means to…

• be surrounded with something
*divers Gk #4164 poikilos (poy-kee-los) it means manifold, motley and various in character
*temptation Gk #3986 peirasmos (pi-ras-mos) it is…
• a putting to proof by experiment of good or experience of evil
• solicitation, discipline, provocation and adversity
This gives credence to the idea of one being personally responsible for making a situation MEAN a certain thing for them self. Here, Apostle James is referring to persecution encountered due to one’s allegiance to Christ and His Doctrine. [Jn 15:18-27; 17:6, 9, 11, 14, 16, 17, 19] The Elect are purposed and commanded to let their light or insight be present in the dark world and not allow it to be HIDDEN. [Mt 5:14-16] Because they resolve in heart to obey and share the insight imparted to them by Christ, they are considered great in heaven. [Mt 5:19; Jn 17:22, 23] However, they are also recognized by the dark powers that govern the world. Therefore, they are targets for wiles of these evil forces but are given authority in Christ’s and divine faith to effectively combat them. [Lk 10:19; Mk 11:23; Eph 6:16; Gal 2:16, 20] In fact, the brethren of Christ are to COUNT it JOY when they FALL into encounters with wicked forces. [Phil 1:29; I Tim 4:10; II Tim 3:12; I Pet 4:19] PERIPIPTO or FALLING into refers to the practice of treading upon satanic forces. Christ makes mention that OFFENSES are necessary in this world. [Mt 18:7; 6:34; Jn 16:33] Therefore, they are not always avoidable and must be effectively dealt with. POIKILOS or DIVERS gives credence to the idea that evil presents itself in many forms. When one fails in one form, it goes away only to return to challenge in a different form. [Mt 4:11] As displayed in Christ’s wilderness experience, evil comes when one seems most vulnerable to their TEMPTATIONS. In every encounter, born-again believers will overcome them by remaining subject to divine directives. Demons were once holy angles and are accustomed to redeeming time. Thus, they only present TEMPTATIONS when they believe their opponents will react in a favorable manner to them. Understanding the reality of mortal weakness and the cunning of dark powers, Christ asked Yahweh to protect His brethren from their TEMPTATIONS. [Mt 26:41; Jn 17:15, 20] Christ also teaches His brethren to pray the same request daily to THEIR HEAVENLY FATHER. [Mt 6:13] In [Jam 1:3] Apostle James gives reason as to why the Elect are to COUNT their experiences with evil as JOY. It is because these experiences invoke the power of divine PATIENCE. Apostle James writes,
KNOWING this, that the TRYING of your FAITH WORKETH PATIENCE.
[Jam 1:3]
*knowing Gk #1097 ginosko (ghin-oce-ko) it means to know absolutely
*trying Gk #1383 dokimion (dok-im-ee-on) it means trustworthiness, testing and trial
*faith Gk #4102 pistis (pis-tis) it is…
• persuasion and credence
• moral conviction of religious truth, truthfulness of Yahweh or a religious teacher
• reliance upon Christ for salvation and constancy of such profession
• the system of religious truth based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ
*worketh Gk #2716 katergazomai (kat-er-gad-zom-ahee) it means to…
• do work fully, fashion, accomplish and finish
• cause, perform, work out and do a deed
*patience Gk #5281 hupomone (hoop-om-on-ay) it is constancy, cheerful and hopeful endurance
In addition to divine PATIENCE, divine FAITH cannot be penetrated, overcome or destroyed by dark powers. The power of evil cannot take away one’s divine FAITH. One must willingly denounce and discard it, which is why satanic powers devise TEMPTATIONS in effort to subtly convince one to relinquish their FAITH. Only then can evil become a strong hold in one’s life. [I Jn 5:4, 5; II Cor 4:3; 10:4, 5] Per Apostle Paul, divine FAITH is the shield that quenches ALL the fiery darts of the wicked. [Eph 6:16] Christ said,
In your PATIENCE POSSESS ye your SOULS.
[Lk 21:19]
*possess Gk #2932 ktaomi (ktah-om-ahee) it means to…
• get and acquire by any means
• prove, purchase, obtain and own

• breath, spirit and animal sentient principle only

Christ also said,
Because thou hast KEPT the WORD of My PATIENCE, I also will KEEP thee FROM the HOUR of TEMPTATION, which SHALL COME upon ALL who DWELL upon the earth.
[Rev 3: 8, 10; Jn 8:31, 32; II Tim 2:15; 3:14-17; II Pet 1:20; Eno 37:1-5]
*kept/keep Gk #5083 tereo (tay-reh-o) it means to…

*hour Gk #5610 hora (ho-rah) it is an hour, day, instance and season
There is an HOUR of TEMPTATION that comes upon all inhabitants of earth. However, there are seasons of TEMPTATIONS that are postponed when one PATIENTLY KEEPS divine directives. Apostle James writes,
But let PATIENCE have her PERFECT WORK, that ye may be PERFECT, and ENTIRE, WANTING nothing.
[Jam 1:3, 4]
*perfect Gk #5046 teleios (tel-i-os) it is completeness and complete in labor, growth, mental and moral character
*work Gk #2041 ergon (er-gon) it is an act or toil as an effort and occupation

Yahweh desires HIS children to be PERFECTLY whole. HE desires them to be COMPLETE and PERFECTLY sound in spirit, soul and body. [I Thes 5:23, 24; Ps 103:1-5; 139:14; Mt 6:25, 33] It is HE WHO gives them to will and do according to HIS good pleasure. Therefore, it is fitting for them to desire the best for their holistic self. [Phil 2:13] In realizing that encounters with TEMPTATION are sometimes inevitable, Apostle James admonishes the Elect writing,
BLESSED is the man that ENDURETH TEMPTATION: for when he is TRIED, he shall receive the Crown of Life, which THE LORD hath promised to them that love HIM.
[Jam 1:12; Rev 3:10]
*blessed Gk #3107 makarios (mak-ar-ee-os) it means supremely blessed, fortunate and well off

*love Gk #25 agapao (ag-ap-ah-o) it means to love in the moral and social sense
Apostle James writes,
Let no man say when he is TEMPTED, I am TEMPTED of God: for God cannot be TEMPTED with EVIL, neither TEMPTETH HE any man:
[Jam 1:13]

*enticed Gk #1185 deleazo (del-eh-ad-zo) it means to entrap, delude, allure and beguile
The Lord Jesus expressed that what defiles a person comes from the treasure of their own heart. [Mt 15:10-20] There is a treasure from one’s born-again heart as well as that of their carnal heart. [Rm 8:5-9; Heb 6:7-9] The Elect are admonished to be renewed in their spiritual heart daily. In fact, this is the only way they can continue to worship Yahweh as HE desires. [St Jn 4:23, 24] Apostle James writes,
Then when LUST hath CONCEIVED, it BRINGETH FORTH SIN: and SIN when it is FINISHED, BRINGETH FORTH DEATH.
[Jam 1:15; Rm 6:23]

Those who DESIRE FORBIDDEN things will BREED FORBIDDEN things if not checked. Thus, SIN does not just happen. It is invoked by one’s own carnal DESIRE. When DESIRE for SIN is greater than DESIRE for righteousness, soul salvation can be forfeited. Per Christ, the only reason mortal spirits inherit the Second Death is because they denied Christ the divine Light Who came to give them salvation. [St Jn 3:19, 20, 36; Rev 21:8] All mortals fall short of glory that is due to THE LORD because of the sin flawed nature they inherited from Adam. However, they can all be liberated from THE POWER OF SIN through faith filled obedience to Christ the Word. [Eno 37:1-5; Mt 11:27-30; Jn 15:1-5; 8:12, 31, 32]
