Letter of Apostle James
An Intimate Review
Pt 3
By Lawrence DeMetrius

In [Jam 1:18a; St Jn 1:11-13] Apostle James expounds upon why Yahweh’s Elect must know that they exist to fulfill HIS PURPOSE and display HIS GOODNESS. This will only be done when they obey and effectively proclaim HIS WORD. When they do, others are given opportunity to experience Divine Iconoclasm and inherit the benefits thereof. [Mt 5:14-16, 19; 28:18-20; II Cor 4:3-7; 10:4, 5] Apostle James writes,

Of HIS OWN WILL BEGAT HE us with the WORD of TRUTH…,
[Jam 1:18a]

*will Gk #1014 boulomai (boo-lom-ahee) it means to will and be willing, disposed, minded and intend

*begat Gk #616 apokeueo (ap-ok-oo-eh-o) it means to breed or birth forth and to generate

*word Gk #3056 logos (log-os) it is…
• something said including the thought
• a topic or subject of discourse
• reasoning, motive and computation, which is a making sense of a thing
• Divine Expression such as Christ the Word

*truth Gk #225 aletheia (al-ay-thi-a) it is truth and verity

WILL or BOULOMAI (boo-lom-ahee) in the ancient Greek language is an adjective not a noun. Thus, in this statement Apostle James is describing something that Yahweh is doing, which in this scripture is WILLING to PRO-CREATE offspring of a particular nature. This is a powerful revelation regarding spirits that are redeemed of Yahweh through Christ. THE LORD expects the same GOODNESS that was displayed through Christ to be reflected through His brethren. [Rm 8:28-30]
Thus, while they may appear to be ordinary people, IN SPIRIT Yahweh’s Elect are ELOHYMS, which are far more superior to ordinary people. [I Pet 2:9; Rev 1:5, 6] In so being, THE LORD expects them to reflect HIS GOODNESS and produce an abundance of GOOD WORKS that are pleasing to HIM. [Lk 12:48] TRUTH is that by which Yahweh BEGATS born-again believers. [St Jn 1:1-4; 11-14; Eno 48:3] In [Jam 1:18b] Apostle James explains why Yahweh BEGATS spiritual offspring unto HIMSELF. This reason gives credence to why HE expects HIS GOODNESS to be reflected through their lives. Apostle James writes,

…that we should be a KIND of FIRSTFRUITS of HIS creatures.
[Jam 1:18b]

*kind Gk #5100 tis (tis) it means some or any person or object and a certain thing

*firstfruit Gk #536 aparche (ap-ar-khay) it is a beginning of sacrifice or per Hebrew culture the first-fruit

Per these definitions, each born-again believer is a KIND of FIRSTFRUIT and there are others who innately share their likeness. Thus, there is the idea of sheep BEGATING sheep and disciples MAKING disciples. [Mt 28:19, 20] As it relates to the Ministry of Divine Iconoclasm, each born-again believer is appointed to serve an audience they can influence toward spiritual regeneration. Thus, the reflection of Yahweh’s GOODNESS through their spirits is necessary. In [Jam 1:19; Mt 5:14-16, 19] Apostle James adds to this revelation more instruction on how the Elect are to HEAR and SPEAK. He writes,

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be SWIFT to HEAR, SLOW to SPEAK, SLOW to WRATH:
[Jam 1:19]

*swift Gk #5036 tachus (takh-oos) it means fleet, prompt and ready

*hear Gk #191 akouo (ak-oo-o) it means to hear, give in the audience of, come to the ear, hearken, be reported and understand

*slow Gk #1021 bradus (brad-ooce) it means slow and dull

*speak Gk #2980 laleo (lal-eh-o) it means to talk, utter words, preach, say, speak after and tell

*wrath Gk #3709 orge (or-gay) it is desire as a reaching forth and excitement of the mind, punishment, violent passion and justifiable abhorrence

The WORD one SPEAKS and the tone in which they SPEAK it does matter, especially if they profess to be spokespersons for THE LORD. [Isa 50:4; Pro 10:19; 18:4, 20, 21; Jn 17:20; II Tim 2:24-26; Eph 4:25, 29, 31] The Elect of GOD are admonished to avoid jumping to conclusions or be overtaken by mere emotion. They are admonished to always use discretion when considering the communication they give and receive. This is necessary to properly discern whether or not a communication is GOOD or EVIL. Apostle James explains why the WRATH of man is not to be reflected in the tone of one who SPEAKS on behalf of THE LORD. He writes,

For the WRATH of man WORKETH not the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God.
[Jam 1:20]

*worketh Gk #2716 katergazomai (kat-er-gad-zom-ahee) it means to do fully, work, accomplish, finish, fashion, cause and perform

*righteousness Gk #1343 dikaiosune (dik-ah-yos-oo-nay) it is equity of character and act and Christian justification

This JUSTIFICATION comes through belief in the Name and Blood of Jesus Christ. [Rm 3:23-26] The main goal of born-again believers is to reflect the character of Christ, Who is the only acceptable RIGHTEOUSNESS in Yahweh’s perspective. [Rm 10:1-4; I Cor 1:30; II Cor 5:18, 19] In [Jam 1:21a] Apostle James writes,

Wherefore lay apart all FILTHINESS and SUPERFLUITY of NAUGHTINESS, and RECEIVE with MEEKNESS the ENGRAFTED WORD, which is able to SAVE your SOULS.
[Jam 1:21]

*filthiness Gk #4507 rhuparia (rhor-par-ee-ah) it is moral dirtiness and turpitude, which is vile, shameful and base character, depravity and the act thereof
*superfluity Gk #4050 perisseia (per-is-si-ah) it is surplusage and superabundance

*naughtiness Gk #2549 kakia (kak-ee-ah) it is badness, depravity, malignity, trouble, evil, malice, maliciousness and wickedness

*receive Gk #1209 dechomai (dekh-om-ahee) it means to receive, accept and take

*meekness Gk #4240 prautes (prah-too-tace) it is mildness and humility

*engrafted Gk #1721 emphutos (em-foo-tos) it means to implant, engraft, insert or propagate, which is to…
• reproduce a things own kind as an organism does
• produce offspring or transmit hereditary features to or through
• spread a report, doctrine or practice from one person to another
• disseminate or transmit

*save Gk 4982 sozo (sode-zo) it means to save, deliver and protect, heal, preserve and save self, do well, be or make whole

*soul Gk #5590 psuche (psoo-khay) it is spirit, breath and animal sentient principle only

• sentient as a noun is a person or thing that is sentient and the conscious mind
• principle is…
o an accepted or professed rule of action or conduct
o a fundamental, primary or general law from which others derive
o a fundamental doctrine and distinctive ruling opinion

Per Apostle James’s statement, the SOUL refers to that which is in all intelligent beings. In [Jam 1:22] Apostle James admonishes those who RECEIVE the ENGRAFTED WORD to govern themselves accordingly. He writes,

But be ye DOERS of the WORD, and not HEARERS only, DECEIVING your own selves.
[Jam 1:22]
*doer Gk #4163 poietes (poy-ay-tace) it is a poet or one who performs

Contrary to popular belief, the Holy Ghost does not make any one do anything. However, He does empower the Elect to know what Yahweh expects of them. It remains one’s own decision to PERFORM accordingly. [Eno 37:1-5; Mt 16:24-27; Jn 14:26; 16:13; I Jn 2:27-29]

*hearer Gk #202 akroates (ak-ro-at-ace) it is a mere hearer

*deceiving Gk #3884 paralogizomai (par-al-og-id-zom-ahee) it is to…
• misreckon, which is to…
o incorrectly reckon, which is to…
 count, compute and calculate
 esteem, consider and regard as
o incorrectly calculate, which is to…
 determine and ascertain by mathematical methods
 compute, estimate and evaluate
 determine by reasoning, common sense and practical experience
 adapt, make suitable or fit for a purpose
o incorrectly judge, which is to…
 act as a judge and pass judgment
 form an opinion and estimate
• delude and beguile, which is to…
• influence by trickery and flattery
• mislead and take away from by cheating and deceiving
• charm, divert and pass time pleasantly

All the above is what people do to themselves when they merely HEAR divine directives but fail to PERFORM them. Religious temple or church goers have been doing this for centuries. [Jer 7:1-10, 16; Eze 23:39; Zeph 1:5] DOUBLEMINDEDNESS has always led to UNSTABLENESS. [Eccl 10:1; Mt 6:19-24; Jam 1:8; Rev 3:15, 16] Apostle James writes,

For if any be a HEARER of the WORD, and not a DOER, he is like unto a man BEHOLDING his natural face in a glass: for he BEHOLDETH himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what MANNER of man he was.
[Jam 1:23, 24]
*beholding Gk #2657 katanoeo (kat-an-o-eh-o) it means to fully observe, consider, discover and perceive

*manner Gk #3697 hopoios (hop-oy-os) it means of what kind

Divine WORD clearly discloses one’s true disposition before Yahweh and no one can feign intelligence with the ALL-KNOWING GOD. [Pro 24:12; Ps 94:7-11; Rm 1:19, 20] THE LORD provides the directives needed to obtain favor with HIM. [II Tim 2:26] In [Jam 1:25; Ps 1:1-3; Jn 8:31, 32, 36; Mt 5:19] Apostle James reiterates that those who continually govern themselves according to divine directives, will be BLESSED for doing so. He writes,

But whoso LOOKETH into the PERFECT LAW of LIBERTY, and CONTINUETH therein, he being not a FORGETFUL HEARER, but a DOER of the WORK, this man shall be BLESSED in his DEED.
[Jam 1:25]

*looketh Gk #3879 parakupto (par-ak-oop-to) it means to bend beside and lean over so as to peer within, stoop down and look into

*perfect Gk #5046 teleios (tel-i-os) it is completeness and to be complete in various applications of labor, growth, mentality and moral character

*law Gk #3551 nomos (nom-os) it refers to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and law through the idea of prescriptive usage, general regulation and specifically the complete volume of Mosaic Laws

*liberty Gk #1657 eleutheria (el-yoo-ther-ee-ah) it is legitimate and licentious freedom or that which is moral or ceremonial [Rm 6]

*forgetful Gk #1953 epilesmone (ep-ee-lace-mon-ay) it means negligence, which is the quality, fact or result of being guilty of neglect, which is to…
• pay little or no attention to
• disregard or slight
• be remiss in the care and treatment of
• omit through indifference and carelessness
• fail to take, use, carry out or perform orders and duties
*blessed Gk #3107 makarios (mak-ar-ee-os) it means supremely blest and fortunate

*deed Gk #4162 poiesis (poy-ay-sis) it is action and performance of the law

The BLESSING of THE LORD is only granted to them who HEAR and PERFORM HIS directives. [Mt 5:19; 11:28-30; Jn 6:63; 8:12, 24, 31, 32, 36; 12:44-50; Rm 10:8-18; II Tim 2:15, 26]
