Letter of Apostle Peter – I Peter
An Intimate Review
Pt 11
By Lawrence DeMetrius
Per [I Pet 4:12; 5:1-8] Apostle Peter was well informed by Christ Jesus Himself regarding the persecution that many Christians would undergo, especially in First Century Rome. He writes,
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the FIERY TRIAL which is to TRY you, as though some STRANGE thing happened unto you:

In [I Pet 4:13] Apostle Peter suggests that one should consider SUFFERING that arises due to their devotion to Christ as reason to REJOICE. [Mt 5:11, 12; 6:34; Jn 16:33; I Cor 10:13; Heb 12:1-11] He writes,
But REJOICE, insomuch as ye are PARTAKERS of Christ’s SUFFERINGS; that, when His GLORY shall be REVEALED, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Per [I Pet 4:13-19] it is one thing to merely SUFFER but another to SUFFER with the idea of sharing the experience with Christ. There will always be struggle between the spiritual and carnal sides of one’s mortal nature. [Mt 6:34; Rm 7:1-25] However, the Elect are admonished to maintain their stance in divine worship by remaining subject to Yahweh’s directives. [I Pet 4:19; Gal 6:1-9; Mt 4:1-11] In [I Pet 5:5-11] Apostle Peter then expounds upon the value of HUMBLE SUBMITTANCE being expressed among Christian brethren, as it is relevant to guarding themselves from evil influences. He writes,
Likewise, ye YOUNGER, SUBMIT YOURSELVES unto the ELDER. Yea, all of you be SUBJECT to another, and be clothed with HUMILITY: for GOD RESISTETH the PROUD, and giveth GRACE to the HUMBLE.
[I Pet 5:5]
*younger Gk #3501 neos (neh-os) it means new, young, fresh and is figurative of that which is spiritually regenerated

Per these definitions, Apostle Peter explains the relevance of one’s availability to serve another per the ability endowed upon them by Yahweh. Christ and Apostle Peter emphasize that the Elect are to SUBJECT themselves in SERVICE to one another, as Christ still is to His Church. This SUBSERVIENTNESS is evident of one’s true character and maturity in Christ. [Mt 5:44-48; I Jn 4] The CONSPICUOUSNESS of Yahweh’s Elect is to be limited to godly character, love, and HUMILITY. [Mt 5:14-16, 19] Ungodly PRIDE should always be far from an Elect of GOD who are never to APPEAR unapproachable. Their demeanor should always be welcoming, especially to those who reverently inquire of them about Yahweh’s Word and Wisdom. [II Tim 2:24-26]
In [I Pet 5:6, 7] Apostle Peter continues with the idea of HUMILITY writing,
HUMBLE yourselves therefore under the mighty HAND of God, that HE may EXALT you in DUE TIME. CASTING all your CARE upon HIM for HE CARETH for you.

As expressed by King Solomon, there is a proper time for all processes on earth. This is divine and universal law that will not be undermined. Thus, the Elect do well to embrace the fact that due occurrences will only happen in their lives at their appointed times. King Solomon writes,
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
[Eccl 3:1]

In addition to practicing HUMILITY Apostle Peter writes,
Be SOBER, be VIGILANT;
[I Pet 5:8a]
*sober Gk #3525 nepho (nay-fo) it means to abstain from wine, keep sober, be discreet and watchful
*vigilant Gk #1127 gregoreuo (gray-gor-yoo-o) it means to keep awake and watchful
One can remain SOBER and VIGILANT by remaining focused on what Yahweh has spoken. [Mt 11:28-30; Lk 4:18, 19; Jn 8:12, 31, 32; I Jn 4:1-6] In [I Pet 5:8b] Apostle Peter gives reason as to why the Elect are to be SOBER and VIGILANT writing,
…because your ADVERSARY THE DEVIL, as a roaring lion, WALKETH ABOUT, seeking whom he MAY DEVOUR: Whom RESIST STEADFAST IN THE FAITH,

Per these definitions, the only way the Elect can effectively overcome satanic powers is to remain STEDFAST in divine FAITH. [Eph 6:10-12; II Cor 4:3-7; 10:4, 5; Heb 12:1-3; Jude vs 3-4] Per [I Pet 5:9b] Apostle Peter clarifies that the Elect experience AFFLICTION all over the world writing,
…knowing that the same AFFLICTIONS are ACCOMPLISHED in your brethren that are in the world.
[I Pet 5:9b; Jn 17:6, 9, 11-16, 18, 20; 16:33; Mt 5:11, 12; 6:34; I Cor 10:13; Jam 1:2-4]

*accomplish Gk #2005 epiteleo (ep-ee-tel-eh-o) it means to fulfill further, completely, execute, terminate and undergo
Per [I Pet 5:10] the Elect are to keep in mind that Yahweh governs the degree of their challenges with satanic forces and will at no time allow more upon them then they can bear. [Mt 6:34; Jn 16:33; I Cor 10:13] Apostle Peter writes,
But the God of all grace, WHO hath called us unto HIS eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have SUFFERED a while, make you PERFECT, STABLISH, STRENGTHEN, SETTLE you.

All the above is what Yahweh does to help HIS Elect secure their eternal riches in Christ, as HE prepares them to live in HIM forever and ever. [Pro 8:17-21; Mt 6:19-24, 31-34; Col 3:1, 2]
