Letter of Apostle Peter – I Peter
An Intimate Review
Pt 1 & 2
By Lawrence DeMetrius
In [I Pet 1:1, 2] Apostle Peter salutes Christians who are experiencing a season of great persecution. He reminds them of 4 DIVINE GRATUITIES they have received of THE LORD, which are applicable to all born-again believers.
1. They are the ELECT according to the FOREKNOWLEDGE of GOD THE FATHER.
*elect Gk #1588 ekloge (ek-log-ay) it means divine selection
*foreknowledge Gk #4268 prognosis (prog-no-sis) it is forethought
2. They have become the ELECT of Yahweh through SANCITIFICATION of the Holy Ghost.
*sanctification Gk #38 hagiasmos (hag-ee-as-mos) it is a purifier, purification and the state of purity
3. They are SANCTIFIED by the Holy Ghost unto OBEDIENCE to Yahweh and sprinkling of the Blood of Jesus Christ.
*obedience Gk #5218 hupakoe (hoop-ak-o-ay) it is submission, compliance and attentive hearkening
4. GRACE and PEACE is MULTIPLIED unto THEM.

• gratitude and graciousness as gratifying of manner and act
• divine influence upon the heart and its reflection in the life
*peace Gk # 1515 eirene (i-ray-nay) it is…
• rest, prosperity and quietness
• being one and set at one again…with Yahweh through Christ
*multiplied Gk # 4129 plethuno (play-thoo-no) it means to increase and abound
Apostle Peter also acknowledges the DIVINITY and FAMILIAL RELATIONSHIP of Jesus Christ to Yahweh. He did not endorse the idea of Christ being Yahweh. Apostle Peter clearly notes that he recognized Yahweh as the GOD WHO begat Christ and the GOD WHO Christ worshipped. [Jn 20:17] In fact, Christ advised Peter that this revelation can only be revealed by Yahweh, HIS FATHER. [Mt 16:13-20; Jn 6:44, 45, 65] Knowing this Apostle Peter writes,
Blessed be the GOD and FATHER OF our Lord, Jesus Christ, which according to HIS abundant mercy hath BEGOTTEN US AGAIN unto a lively HOPE BY the RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ from the dead,
to an INHERITANCE INCORRUPTIBLE, and UNDEFILED, and that FADETH NOT AWAY, RESERVED in heaven for you,
who are KEPT by the POWER of GOD through FAITH unto SALVATION ready to be REVEALED in the last time.
Wherein ye greatly REJOICE, if need be, ye are in HEAVINESS through MANIFOLD TEMPTATIONS:
[I Pet 1:3-5]
While there are many reasons why the Elect praise Yahweh, the primary reason for doing so is because of the mercies HE bestows upon them through Christ. Apostle Peter notes that Yahweh has BEGOTTEN them AGAIN.

o on the other hand, back and in return
o in reply and to the same person or place
Per The Old and New Testaments, Yahweh is clearly noted as the PROGENERATOR of all creation, namely mortals. [Gen 1:6, 7; 2:7; Acts 17:26-28] Biblical History clarifies that all mortals experienced a SPIRITUAL DEATH per Adam’s transgression and became in need of SPIRITUAL REGENERATION. [Gen 2:9, 17; 3:1-6] Blessedly, the Gospel of Jesus Christ heralds that SPIRITUAL REGENERATION is available to all mortals by faith in Christ the Word. [St Jn 1:1-14; II Tim 2:26] Apostle Peter notes that the Elect are BEGOTTEN AGAIN unto a lively HOPE by the RESURRECTION of Christ from the DEAD.
*hope Gk #1680 elpis (el-pece) it is expectation and confidence

Apostle Peter notes that the Elect are BEGOTTEN AGAIN to an INHERITANCE that is INCORRUPTIBLE, UNDEFILED and FADES NOT AWAY but is RESERVED in heaven for them. It is an INHERITANCE that is now ready to be revealed on The Final Day of Judgment.
*inheritance Gk #2817 kleronomia (klay-ron-om-ee-ah) it is heirship and patrimony which is…
• a possession and estate inherited from one's father or ancestors
• a heritage or any quality and characteristic that is inherited
• the aggregate, total and gross amount of one's property
• the estate or endowment of a church or religious house
o an estate is…
a piece of land, especially one of large extent with an elaborate house on it [Jn 14:1-4]
interest, ownership or property in land or other things
a period or condition of life [Jn 10:10b]

• persuasion and credence

Christ admonishes His brethren to KEEP their eye, mind and heart upon the INHERITANCE that is RESERVED for them by Yahweh’s POWER through FAITH. [Pro 8:17-21; Mt 6:19-21; Col 3:1, 2; Rev 3:10]. The ultimate blessing of their effort is SALVATION from The Second Death on the Final Day of Judgement. [Exo 32:32, 33; St Jn 3:19, 36; 6:37-40; Rev 20:10-15]
*salvation Gk #4991 soteria (so-tay-ree-ah) it is rescue and safety
*ready Gk #2092 hetoimos (het-oy-mos) it means adjusted, prepared and made ready
*revealed Gk #601 apokalupto (ap-ok-al-oop-to) it means to take off the cover and disclose
Having this revelation, the Elect of GOD are to always be REJOICING in HIM. [Lk 10:20]
*rejoice Gk #21 agalliao (ag-al-lee-ah-o) it means to jump for joy, exult and be exceedingly glad
In [I Pet 1:6b] Apostle Peter expresses the importance of remembering this revelation and practice of REJOICING, especially in seasons of HEAVY and MANIFOLD TEMPTATIONS. He writes,
…though now for a season, if need be, ye are in HEAVINESS through MANIFOLD TEMPTATIONS:
[I Pet 1:6b]
*heaviness Gk #3076 lupeo (loop-eh-o) it is distress, grief, sorrow and sadness
*manifold Gk #4164 poikilos (poy-kee-los) it means divers and various in character
*temptation Gk #3986 peirasmos (pi-ras-mos) it is adversity, a putting to proof by experiment of good, experience of evil, provocation and solicitation
In [I Pet 1:7-12] Apostle Peter notes that the TRIAL of one’s FAITH is more precious than gold tried in fire that perishes away. He notes that such TRIALS will be deemed praise, honor and glory at the appearance of Jesus Christ. The Elect are to KEEP in mind that Yahweh is always aware of their encounters with evil forces. In fact, it is HE WHO approves those experiences as HE did with Jesus Christ, Job and all HIS servants. [Job 1:6; Mt 4:1; 5:11, 12] Apostle Peter is writing to an audience who became followers of Christ after His Ascension and admonished them during a season of great persecution because of their allegiance to Christ.
He praises them for their devotion to a Savior they did not personally experience as he did. Christ did invoke a special blessing upon all born-gain believers who entrust themselves to Him, even though they did experience His mortality as did His Original Apostles. [Jn 20:29] Apostle Peter then clarifies that effective proclamation of The Gospel of Jesus Christ is accessorized by the power and demonstration of the Holy Ghost. This is the only way mortals are effectively inspired to put their FAITH in the Word of THE LORD and not in man’s wisdom. [Acts 1:8; I Cor 2:1-5]
