Letter of Apostle Peter – I Peter
An Intimate Review
Pt 3
By Lawrence DeMetrius
In [I Pet 1:13-21] Apostle Peter admonishes born-again believers to live as beneficiaries of the ETERNAL INHERITANCE given them by Yahweh through Christ Jesus. He expounds upon elements that indicate the QUALITY OF LIFESTYLE befitting them as the Elect of GOD. He writes,
Wherefore GIRD UP the LOINS of your MIND, …
[I Pet 1:13]
*gird up Gk #328 anazonnumi (an-ad-zone-noo-mee) it means to gird afresh which is to…

*mind Gk #1271 dianoia (dee-an-oy-ah) it is deep thought, faculty, disposition, imagination, understanding and exercising of the mind
Every born-believer is responsible for doing this with the LOINS of their own MIND. Per these definitions, LOINS refer to one’s ability to GENERATE and AFFECT their own MIND. Apostle Peter continues his statement writing,
…be SOBER, and HOPE to the END for the GRACE that is to be brought unto you at the REVELATION of Jesus Christ;
[I Pet 1:13]

This REVELATION refers to both The Second Advent of Christ and the moment of one’s personal encounter with Christ. How one responds to Christ at these encounters can determine their eternal fate. [Isa 55; Mt 11:26-30; 16:24-28; St Jn 1:1-14; 3:16-22, 36; Rev 3:20] Apostle Peter, who is the Rock and Chief Apostle of Jesus Christ, then expounds on Yahweh’s Elect and their QUALITY of living writing,
As OBEDIENT children, not FASHIONING yourselves according to the former LUSTS in your IGNORANCE:
[I Pet 1:14]
*obedient Gk #5218 hupakoe (hop-ak-o-ay) it is attentive hearkening, compliance and submission [Jam 4:7-10; Jn 6:37-40, 44, 45, 65; 8:38-47; 10:14-16]
*fashioning Gk #4964 suschematizo (soos-khay-mat-id-zo) it means to fashion alike and conform to the same pattern
*lust Gk #1939 epithuma (ep-ee-thoo-mee-ah) it is a longing, especially for what is forbidden
*ignorance Gk #52 agnoia (ag-noy-ah) it is the presence and quality of ignorance, which the state and fact of being ignorant, lack of learning, knowledge and information
Per these definitions, Yahweh expects born-again believers to govern themselves according to the insight HE imparts to them through Christ and the Holy Ghost. They are no longer to conduct themselves as they did prior to their spiritual rebirth.
Apostle Peter writes,
But as HE which hath called you is HOLY, so be ye HOLY in ALL manner of CONVERSATION: because it is written, Be ye HOLY; for I am HOLY.
[I Pet 1:15, 16; Lev 20:7]
*holy Gk #40 hagios (hag-ee-os) it is being sacred, which is physically pure, morally blameless, religious and ceremonially consecrated
*conversation Gk #391 anastrophe (an-as-trof-ay) it is behavior
Apostle Peter instructs those who CALL on Yahweh writing,
And if ye CALL on the FATHER, WHO without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your SOJOURNING here in FEAR:
[I Pet 1:17]
*call Gk #1941 epikaleomai (ep-ee-kal-eh-o) it means to entitle, invoke and appeal to
*sojourning Gk #3940 paroikia (par-oy-kee-ah) it means foreign residence
This is extremely special because it serves as a reminder that one’s mortal lifetime on earth is just that, a SOJOURNING.
*fear Gk #5401 phobos (fob-os) it is alarm and fright
While the idea of living in ALARM and FRIGHT is not a pleasant one, this attitude as it relates to reverencing Yahweh, indicates genuine belief in what HE has spoken through HIS scribes and prophets, from Enoch to Jesus Christ and His Original Apostles. Living in REVERENT FEAR of Yahweh strengthens one’s effort to live in a manner that pleases HIM. In [I Pet 1:18-21] Apostle Peter clarifies that REDEMPTION does not come by adhering to traditions of men but by FAITH in the Person and Blood of Jesus Christ. [Rm 3:23-26]
Apostle Peter reiterates the following 2 POINTS.
1. Although Jesus Christ was ordained before the foundation of the world, He was manifested in the last time for Yahweh’s Elect.
2. Jesus Christ is the Source of one’s FAITH in Yahweh WHO raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory so the FAITH and HOPE of Yahweh’s Elect might rest in HIM. [Heb 12:1-3]
So then, without Jesus Christ, there is no way a mortal can genuinely BELIEVE in Yahweh or properly worship HIM AGAIN as they should. [Eccl 12:13; Mt 11:27-30; St Jn 1:1-14; 4:23, 24; 6:44, 45, 65; 8:12, 24, 31, 32; 14:6; 15:1-5; Gal 2:16, 20; Heb 7:25; 12:1-3; I Jn 5:20] The Lord Jesus said,
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him.
God is a Spirit; and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
[St Jn 4:23, 24]
Christ also said,
I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the FATHER but by Me.
[Jn 14:6]
