The Book of Enoch
An Intimate Review
Pt 6 – Notes for Section Three and Four the Book of the Heavenly Luminaries
Covering Chapters 72-82 and The Dream Vision Covering Chapters 83-90
By Lawrence DeMetrius
In Chapter 80 Enoch writes about how celestial bodies i.e., stars, moon, and sun would become objects of idolatry and erroneously regarded as gods. STAR WORSHIP was one of the major practices of idolatry that triggered The Great Flood. It will be one of the dark practices that triggers the second and final judgment. [vs 7, 8] Idolatry such as STAR WORSHIP influences people to perform acts they are not innately inclined to do. Apostle Paul addresses this degree of idolatry and the perverse effect it has on mortals in his Epistle of Romans. [Rm 1:18-32]
In Chapters 81 and 82 Enoch reiterates the books that account for the lives of those who transition to immortality in unrighteousness. He reiterates that the names of all who transition to immortality in righteousness will remain in The Book of Life. [vs 4; Exo 32:30-33; Rm 8:1; Rev 20:11-15] He also reiterates that some Elect will become martyrs due to their righteous character. Able the brother of Cain is the first of such martyrs. [vs 10; Gen 4:1-16; Mt 5:11, 12; Jn 16:33; Rev 2:8-11, 13]
Chapters 83 and 84 deal with Enoch’s 1ST Dream-Vision concerning The Great Flood. Even in Enoch’s day people were classified as believers or non-believers. It was Enoch’s Grandfather Mahalaleel who instructed him to petition Yahweh to preserve someone so all people would not perish from the earth per The Great Flood. This person was Enoch’s great grandson Noah. Enoch records a prayer that is similar to the one Christ taught to His disciples. [Eno 84; Mt 6:9-13] He notes that Yahweh gives the children of earth mouths, tongues and breath to verbally express themselves. HE expects them to do so but respectfully amongst one another and in righteousness and praise toward HIM. Although Yahweh knows everyone’s desires, HE still requires all to practice continual prayer. It reveals the true desires of the heart and whether or not one truly seeks fulfillment of HIS will over their own. Yahweh knows what is good for each spirit.
Therefore, the best that every spirit can do is pray for HIS will to be done on earth as it is in heaven, as taught by Christ Jesus. [Mt 6:8, 10; 26:39; Mk 11:21-23; Phil 2:13; I Jn 5:14, 15]
Chapters 85-90 cover Enoch’s 2nd Dream-Vision. The chapters entail world history to the founding of The Messianic Kingdom. Enoch is the first prophet and scribe of Yahweh to foresee major world events.
In Chapter 85 he uses various BREEDS OF CATTLE to characterize spiritual
natures exhibited by mortals since their creation. WHITE BULLS represent mortals of righteous character. Adam and Eve are the first of this kind. BLACK BULLS represent mortals of unrighteous character. Cain is the first of this kind. RED BULLS appear to represent righteous mortals who are divinely appointed to be martyrs to the glory of Yahweh. Abel is the first of this kind. Abel, Christ Jesus and many others are examples of these righteous spirits. [Mt 5:11, 12] In Sheol, the spirit of Abel petitions Yahweh to avenge him by removing Cain and his offspring i.e., BLACK BULLS from the face of the earth. Yahweh is going to grant Abel’s request. [Eno 22: 6, 7; Gen 4:8-16] Again, Adam is the first WHITE BULL and his wife EVE is the first WHITE HEIFER or female expression of a WHITE BULL. Enoch notes that all breeds generated from them.
In Chapter 86, Enoch reveals that the 200 fallen angels BECAME BULLS on earth. This suggests that they had the ability to fashion their bodies in a tangible way on earth. Perhaps this ability is why the Five Satans sought their assistance. Apostle Peter also wrote about mortals entertaining angels unawares. This gives more credence to the idea of a class of angels who can transform their bodies in a way that allows them to physically engage with mortals. [Heb 13:2] Enoch describes the 200 earthly daughters with whom the 200 angels copulated as Cows of Oxen. This suggests that these women were a different breed of beast or spiritual character than their mother Eve. The OFFSPRING of the 200 fallen angels were represented as ELEPHANTS. This was a fitting description because they were literally real giants on earth. Enoch then gives a brief epitome of major world events which were fulfilled, are being fulfilled, or will be fulfilled.
In Chapters 87 and 88, Enoch writes about the role of certain holy angles in the punishment of fallen angels.
In Chapter 89:1-27, he reiterates Noah’s experience of The Great Flood, Noah’s death, and world history through to the Hebrew exodus from Egypt. Enoch reveals that variation of nationalities began after The Great Flood. All nations are offspring of Noah’s three sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. [Gen 5:32]
In Chapter 89:28-40, Enoch foretells of the ancient Hebrews in the Desert, the giving of the Mosaic Law, and the entrance of the Hebrews into Palestine.
In Chapter 89:41-50, he foretells of events from the time of the Hebrew Judges to the building of the first temple dedicated to Yahweh in Israel.
In Chapter 89:51-67, Enoch foretells of the two kingdoms of Israel and Judah up to the destruction of Jerusalem.
In Chapter 89:68-41, he foretells of The First Period of the Angelic Rulers-from the destruction of Jerusalem to their return from captivity.
In Chapter 89:72-77, Enoch foretells of The Second Period – from the time of Cyrus to Alexander the Great.
In Chapter 90:1-5, he foretells of The Third Period – from Alexander the Great to the Graeco-Syrian domination.
In Chapter 90:6-12, Enoch foretells of The Fourth Period – from the Graeco-Syrian domination to the Maccabean revolt.
In Chapter 90:13-19, he foretells of the last assault of the Gentiles on the nation of Israel.
In Chapter 90:20-27, Enoch foretells of the Judgment of the Fallen Angels, the Shepherds, and the Apostates.
Finally, in Chapter 90:28-42, he foretells of the New Jerusalem, the conversion of the surviving Gentiles, the resurrection of the Righteous, and Christ the Messiah.
Following his Dream-Visions, Enoch awakens and weeps because of the horrors therein.
