Lesson 13 of 77
Obedience Indicates Divine Sonship
{See Lessons 3, 15, 36, 39, 43}
By Lawrence DeMetrius

The whole duty of every mortal is to reverence and obey Yahweh. King Solomon writes,

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep HIS commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.
[Eccl 12:13]

Those who desire to be reconciled to divine worship can receive of THE LORD spiritual empowerment to do so through Christ. Apostle John writes,

He came unto His Own, and His Own received Him not.
But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name.
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
[St Jn 1:11-13]

The Lord Jesus said,

But the hour cometh, and now is when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship HIM.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship HIM must worship HIM in spirit and in truth.
[St Jn 4:23, 24]

I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by Me.
[Jn 14:6]

As born-again believers mature in HIS grace, they progressively excel in pleasing Yahweh by properly reverencing and obeying HIS directives.

Apostle Paul writes,

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of HIS good pleasure.
[Phil 2:13]

Make you perfect in every good work to do HIS will, working in you that which is well pleasing in HIS sight, through Jesus Christ; to Whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
[Heb 13:21]

As the Elect remain subject to Yahweh in faith filled obedience, HE conforms their spiritual nature to that of Christ’s. Apostle Paul writes,

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to HIS purpose.
For whom HE did foreknow, HE also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of HIS Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover, whom HE did predestinate, them HE also called: and whom HE called, them HE also justified: and whom HE justified, them HE also glorified.
[Rm 8:28-30]

The sons of God are admonished to maintain their liberty in Christ, as Yahweh perfects them to His image. The Lord Jesus said,

If ye continue in My word, then are ye My Disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
[Jn 8:31, 32, 36]

Apostle Paul writes,

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness.
[Rm 6:16]

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
[Gal 5:1]

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
[Gal 6:9]

To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life:
But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, …
But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that worketh good…
For there is no respect of persons with God.
[Rm 2:7-11]

One’s familial relationship to Yahweh as son, is witnessed and sealed by the Holy Ghost Who is given unto them for guidance into all truth. The Lord Jesus said,

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, Whom the Father will send in My Name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
[Jn 14:26]

Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and HE will shew you things to come.
[Jn 16:13]

Apostle Paul writes,

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
The Spirit Itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
[Rm 8:14-16]
Yahweh is fully cognizant of mortals who are HIS exclusive worshipers. Apostle Paul writes,

Nevertheless, the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The LORD knoweth them that are HIS. And, Let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
[II Tim 2:19]

Although all people belong to THE LORD, those who fail to properly worship HIM will be removed from HIS glorious presence forever and ever. Yahweh said through Prophet Ezekiel,

Behold, all souls are MINE; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is MINE: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
[Eze 18:4]

THE LORD also said to Moses,

Whosoever hath sinned against ME, him will I blot out of MY book <The Book of Life>.
[Exo 32:33]

Apostle John writes,

And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from Whose Face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the BOOKS were opened: and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the BOOKS, according to their works.
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
[Rev 20:11-15]
One’s obedience to THE LORD’S directives is proof of their familial relationship to HIM as HIS son. Apostle John writes,

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore, the world knoweth us not, because it knew HIM not.
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He <Christ> shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.
And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as He is pure.
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
And ye know that He was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin.
Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, neither known Him.
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous.
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
Whosoever is born of God doeth not commit sin; for HIS Seed <Christ> remaineth in him: and he cannot sin <or be subject to the power of sin>, because he is born of God.
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness in not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
[I Jn 3:1-10]
