Lesson 16 of 77
The Messiah’s Prayer
By Lawrence DeMetrius
Prior to His ultimate sacrifice, Christ the Messiah asked Yahweh to protect His Brethren on earth from the evil of the world in honor of HIMSELF saying,
I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which THOU gavest Me; for they are THINE.
And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to THEE. Holy Father, keep through THINE OWN NAME those whom THOU hast given Me, that they may be one, as WE are.
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in THY NAME: those that THOU gavest Me, I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
I pray not that THOU shouldest take them out of the world, but that THOU shouldest keep them from the evil.
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word;
[Jn 17:9, 11, 12, 15, 20]
Christ the Messiah asked Yahweh to permit His Brethren to live with Him and behold His true glory saying,
They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Sanctify them through THY truth: THY Word is truth.
And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
Father, I will that they also, whom THOU hast given Me, be with Me where I am: that they may behold My glory which THOU hast given Me; for THOU lovedst Me before the foundation of the world.
[Jn 17:16, 17, 19, 24]
Christ the Messiah prayed for all His Brethren to receive divine enlightenment concerning His familial relationship to the Father as HIS Son.
Christ knew that this insight would strengthen their conviction of this truth and empower them to wholeheartedly believe in and maintain their allegiance to Him as their Brother, Savior, Lord and Teacher. Apostle John writes,
But as many as received Him to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name:
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
[St Jn 1:12, 13]
Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
[I Jn 4:15]
The Lord Jesus gives an open invitation to all heavy laden and sin flawed souls but especially those who are predestined to become His Brethren saying,
Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.
[Mt 11:28-30]
Even now does Christ with the Holy Ghost intercede on behalf of His Brethren. Apostle Paul writes,
Wherefore He <Christ the Word> is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto GOD by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.
For such an high priest became us, Who is holy, harmless, and undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
Who needeth not daily, as those high priests <of the ancient past>, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this He did once, when He offered up Himself.
For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmities; but THE WORD OF THE OATH, which was since the law, maketh the Son, Who is consecrated forevermore.
[Heb 7:25-28; Eno 69:13-21; Pro 8:22-31; St Jn 1:1-3, 14]
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
And He <Christ> that searchest the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because HE MAKETH INTERCESSION FOR THE SAINTS ACCORDING TO THE WILL OF GOD.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to HIS purpose.
For whom HE did foreknow, HE also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of HIS Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover, whom HE did predestinate, them HE also called: and whom HE called, them HE also justified: and whom HE justified, them HE also glorified.
[Rm 8:26-30]
Let all brethren of Christ take comfort and remain in Him understanding that they are ever before the LORD GOD through Christ the Messiah’s prayer.
