Lesson 50 of 77
Divine Newness
{See Lessons 17, 24, 44, 47, 56, 58}
By Lawrence DeMetrius
Complete submission to Yahweh is pre-requisite to receiving fuller revelation of HIS perfect will for one’s life. HE said through Moses,
Thou shalt have no other gods before ME.
[Exo 20:3]
The Lord Jesus said,
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
[Mt 6:24]
Apostle James writes,
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
[Jam 4:7]
Apostle John writes,
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
[I Jn 2:15]
Fuller revelation of Yahweh’s perfect will for one’s life is essential to effectively govern themselves holistically. Apostle Paul writes,
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
[Rm 12:1, 2]
In that Yahweh is CREATOR of all, no one is more qualified than HE to help one understand and do HIS will for their lives. Moses writes,
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
[Gen 1:1]
Primary elements of Yahweh’s personal assistance to HIS born-again believers, is the instruction HE provides through HIS appointed scribes and prophets from Enoch to Christ and His Original Apostles. Enoch writes,
The second vision which he saw, the vision of wisdom – which Enoch the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan, the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, saw.
And this is the beginning of the words of wisdom which I lifted up my voice to speak and say to those which dwell on earth: Hear, ye men of old time, and see, ye that come after, the words of the HOLY ONE which I will speak before the LORD OF SPIRITS.
It were better to declare (them only) to the men of old time, but even from those that come after we will not withhold the beginning of wisdom.
Till the present day such wisdom has never been given by the LORD OF SPIRITS as I have received according to my insight, according to the good pleasure of the LORD OF SPIRITS by WHOM the lot of eternal life has been given to me.
Now three Parables were imparted to me, and I lifted up my voice and recounted them to those that dwell on the earth.
[Eno 37]
The book of Hebrews notes,
God, WHO in sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by HIS Son, Whom HE hath appointed heir of all things, by Whom also HE made the worlds;
[Heb 1:1, 2]
The Lord Jesus said,
These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me.
[Lk 24:44]
If ye continue in My word, then are ye My disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
[Jn 8:31, 32]
Apostle Paul writes,
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
[II Tim 2:15]
But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
And that from a child thou <Timothy> hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
[II Tim 3:14-17]
As this discourse focuses on the nature of born-again believers, a review of the word SELF is essential.
Per the English language SELF refers to…
1. a person or thing with respect to complete individuality
2. the nature or character an individual
3. one’s personal interest
4. the identity, character or essential qualities of any person or thing
5. one’s own person as distinct from all others
6. one’s own personal welfare or interest
The idea of SELF in the Holy Scriptures is often expressed as the mortal mind or consciousness, be it influenced by divine or evil rule. The latter being the carnal mind, was generated by Lucifer when forbidden knowledge was fatally conceived by Adam and Eve. Moses writes,
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
[Gen 2:17]
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
[Gen 3:6]
The carnal mind only reflects Lucifer’s nature, which is not and cannot be pure or acceptable to Yahweh. Those who live according to the dictates of the carnal mind, fathered by Lucifer, will inherit Lucifer’s ultimate fate. The Lord Jesus said,
Then shall He <Christ the Judge> say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from Me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
[Mt 25:41]
I speak that which I have seen with My Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
Ye do the deeds of your father.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar and the father of it.
He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
[Jn 8:38, 41, 44, 47]
Apostle Paul writes,
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh: but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
For to be carnally minded IS death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
<Why?> Because the carnal mind IS enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.
[Rm 8:5-8]
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
[II Cor 4:3]
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world; according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience;
[Eph 2:2]
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind,
Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
[Eph 4:17, 18]
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
[Tit 1:15]
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.
[Rev 20:10]
The mind that abides under divine influence, lives according to the dictates thereof. These minds were predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ. The Lord Jesus said,
All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.
For I came down from heaven not to do Mine Own will, but the will of HIM that sent Me.
And this is the Father’s will which hath sent Me, that of all which HE hath given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
And this is the will of HIM that sent Me, that everyone which seeth the Son, and believeth on Him may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Therefore, said I unto you, that no man can come unto Me, except it were given him of My Father.
[Jn 6:37-40, 44, 63, 65]
Apostle Paul writes,
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to HIS purpose.
For whom HE did foreknow, HE also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of HIS Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover, whom HE did predestinate, them HE also called: and whom HE called, them HE also justified: and whom HE justified, them He also glorified.
[Rm 8:28-30]
While born-again believers do possess the mind that is always willing to do that which is right, it does not negate the reality of that carnal mind that remains resident within their weakened mortal nature. The Lord Jesus said,
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
[Mt 26:41]
Apostle Paul expounds upon the battle within writing,
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
for I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
[Rm 7:18-25]
Having inherited weakness per the sin of Adam, makes it impossible for any mortal to render unto Yahweh the glory that is due HIM without the strength of Christ. Apostle Paul writes,
For all have sinned <been enslaved to the power of sin> and come short <present tense> of the glory of God;
[Rm 3:23]
The Lord Jesus said,
I am the Vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing <to please the Father>.
[Jn 15:5]
My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness.
[II Cor 12:9a]
Apostle Paul writes,
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of HIS good pleasure.
[Phil 2:13]
Only through Christ the Word can one worship Yahweh as HE desires, which is with a renewed intellect and in reality. The Lord Jesus said,
But the hour cometh, and now is when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seekeeth such to worship HIM.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship HIM must worship HIM in spirit and in truth.
[St Jn 4:23, 24]
Yahweh admonishes all mortal to receive of HIM enlightenment concerning their holistic being, and any needed or desired wisdom by faith, as HE is willing to abundantly endow them therewith. Apostle James writes,
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of THE LORD.
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
[Jam 1:5-8]
Yahweh loves every soul unconditionally. During the Dispensation of Grace, HE pardons mortal shortcomings and offers reconciliation to fellowship with HIM through Christ. The Lord Jesus said,
For God so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For God sent not HIS Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
[St Jn 3:16, 17]
Yahweh is cognizant of each mortal’s potential for spiritual excellence. However, each one must choose to come to and live in Divine Newness before HIM through Christ. Apostle Paul writes,
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life.
But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile;
For there is no respect of persons with God.
[Rm 2:1-7]
Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
[II Cor 5:17]
