Lesson 45 of 77
Divine Love
{See Lessons 4, 49, 64, 65, 66}
By Lawrence DeMetrius
Divine Love is righteousness in action. It is proof of one’s commitment to doing what is necessary to nurture the holistic wellbeing first of one’s self and then of all others. The Lord Jesus said,
For whosoever shall do the will of My Father which is in heaven, the same is My brother, and sister, and mother.
[Mt 12:50]
If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father’s commandments, and abide in HIS love.
These things have I spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
This is My commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down His life for His friends.
Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
[Jn 15:10-14]
Apostle John writes,
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
[I Jn 3:14, 15, 18]
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as HE is, so are we in this world.
We love HIM <Yahweh>, because HE first loved us.
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God WHOM he hath not seen?
And this commandment have we from Him <Christ>, that he who loveth God love his brother also.
[I Jn 4:7, 8, 16, 17, 19-21]
Yahweh is fully cognizant of those who practice love and those who do not. Those who do not love lack reverence and knowledge of Yahweh and HIS directives. Apostle Paul writes,
But if any man love God, the same is known of HIM.
[I Cor 8:3]
Nevertheless, the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, THE LORD knoweth them that are HIS. And, Let everyone that nameth the Name of Christ depart from iniquity.
[II Tim 2:19]
A primary element of love is unity with Yahweh WHO said through Prophet Isaiah,
Come now, and let us reason together, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
[Isa 1:18]
Yahweh also said through Prophet Amos,
Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
[Amos 3:3]
The primary elements of hatred include lack or avoidance of unity with THE DIVINE GODHEAD, others, and constant discord. King Solomon writes,
These six things doth THE LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto HIM:
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
[Pro 6:16-19]
The Lord Jesus said,
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For everyone that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
[St Jn 3:19, 20]
It has always been the primary duty of mortals to revere and obey Yahweh and HIS directives WHO said through Moses,
Thou shalt have no other gods before ME.
[Exo 20:3]
Hear, O Israel <and all nations>: THE LORD our God is one LORD:
And thou shalt love THE LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
[Deut 6:4, 5]
King Solomon writes,
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep HIS commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
[Eccl 12:13]
Real love for Yahweh is or should be the foundation of all beneficial relationships. Apostle Paul writes,
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
[II Tim 1:7]
Those who practice real love learn to sever ties with any source that discourages their practice thereof, first toward self then toward all others in their lives, including their mortal enemies. Apostle Paul writes,
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin <unbelief> that doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
[Heb 12:1]
King Solomon writes,
I love them that love ME; and those that seek Me early shall find ME.
For whoso findeth ME findeth life and shall obtain favor of THE LORD.
But he that sinneth against ME wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate ME love death.
[Pro 8:17, 35, 36]
The Lord Jesus said,
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.,
By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye have love one to another.
[Jn 13:34, 35]
Apostle Paul writes,
Put on therefore, as the Elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye,
And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
And let the peace of God <WHO is love> rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in THE LORD.
Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
Children, obey your parents in all things <righteous>: for this is well pleasing unto THE LORD.
Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
Servants <employees>, obey in all things your masters <employers> according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as men pleasers; but in singleness <integrity> of heart, fearing God:
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to THE LORD, and not unto men;
Knowing that of THE LORD ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
[Col 3:12-15, 18-25]
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of this own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
[I Tim 5:8]
The Lord Jesus said regarding love for one’s enemies,
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for HE maketh HIS sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
[Mt 5:43-45, 48]
It is the duty of all born-again sons of God to practice speaking and doing in love, the greatest of all God-given abilities. Prophet Isaiah writes,
The LORD GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: HE wakeneth morning by morning, HE wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.
[Isa 50:4]
Apostle Paul writes,
But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way <the way of love>.
[I Cor 12:31]
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains,
And have not charity, I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity it profiteth me nothing.
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
[I Cor 13:1-3, 13]
