The Gift of The Holy Ghost
{See Lessons 16, 41, 56}
By Lawrence DeMetrius
The Gift of The Holy Ghost is a prophecy fulfilled. The Lord Jesus said,
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, Whom the Father will send in My Name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
[Jn 14:26]
But when the Comforter is come, Whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, He shall testify of Me:
[Jn 15:26]
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.
Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself: but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come.
[Jn 16:7, 13]
Apostle Luke writes,
And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the Promise of the Father which, saith He, ye have heard of Me.
For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
[Act 1:4, 5]
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of MY Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughter shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
And on MY servants and on MY handmaidens, I will pour out in those days of MY Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
<Jesus the Christ> Therefore being by the right Hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the Promise of the Holy Ghost, He hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
[Act 2:1-4, 16-18, 33]
In order to receive the Holy Ghost, one must believe in their heart and confess with their mouth that Jesus the Christ is Who the scriptures say He is. Apostle John writes,
If any man thirst, let him come unto Me and drink.
He that believeth on Me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
<Apostle John reiterates> (But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
[Jn 7:38b, 39]
Apostle Paul writes,
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
[Rm 10:8-10]
Christ the Word is the only Person Who baptizes with the Holy Ghost, Who is also a spiritual Fire. Apostle Matthew writes,
I <John the Baptist> indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but He that cometh after me is mightier than I, Whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
[Mt 3:11]
Every born-again believer should receive the Holy Ghost. Apostle Luke writes,
He <Apostle Paul> said unto them <Christian Disciples of Ephesus> Have ye received the Holy
Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy
Ghost.
And he said unto them, unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
Then said Paul, John <the Baptist> verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on Him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus.
And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy
Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
[Acts 19:2-6]
The Holy Ghost is given for several primary reasons to born-again believers, inclusive of the following.
1. To be able to prophesy or speak on Yahweh’s behalf, especially concerning HIS Son Jesus the Christ, and that in a manner that causes people to put their faith in Him. The Lord Jesus said,
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me…
[Act 1:8a]
Apostle Paul writes,
And my speech and my preaching were not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power;
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
[I Cor 2:4, 5]
2. The Holy Ghost imparts necessary revelation regarding one’s holistic wellbeing. Apostle Paul writes,
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love HIM.
But God hath revealed them unto us by HIS Spirit: for the Spirit searched all things, yea, the deep things of God.
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
[I Cor 2:9-13]
But the Anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same Anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as It hath taught you ye shall abide in Him.
[I Jn 2:27]
3. The Holy Ghost provides strength for the mortal and immortal bodies.
Apostle Paul writes,
And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
But if the Spirit of HIM that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, HE that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by HIS Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
[Rm 8:10-13]
4. The Holy Ghost is the Official Witness of one’s familial relationship to Yahweh as a son, and their eternal inheritance in Christ. Apostle Paul writes,
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
The Spirit Itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ:
[Rm 8:14-17]
<Christ> In Whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of HIM WHO worketh all things after the counsel of HIS OWN will:
That we should be to the praise of HIS glory, WHO first trusted in Christ.
In Whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation in Whom also, after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of HIS glory.
[Eph 1:11-14]
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of HIS Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Wherefore thou are no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
[Gal 4:6, 7]
5. The Holy Ghost proves that one belongs to Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul writes,
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man has not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.
[Rm 8:9]
The only sin that is absolutely unforgivable is BLASPHEMY OF THE HOLY GHOST. The Lord Jesus said,
Verily I say unto you,
All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme;
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation…
[Mk 3:28, 29]
*blasphemies Gk #988 blasphemia (blas-fay-me-ah) it is vilification, especially against God the Holy Ghost
• vilification is to speak ill of, defame, slander and make vile
*blaspheme Gk #987 blasphemeo (blas-fay-meh-o) it is to vilify and speak impiously
• impious is not pious or religious, lacking reverence for God, religious practices, ungodly and disrespectful
As expressed by Christ in His dialogue with unbelieving Hebrew leaders, to BLASPHEME the Holy Ghost is likening Him and His works to that of Lucifer and satanic powers.
Again, per Jesus Christ, such disrespect towards the Holy Ghost is altogether unforgivable and worthy of eternal DAMNATION.
*damnation Gk #2920 krisis (kree-sis) which is…
• a decision for or against
• a tribunal, place, or seat of judgment
• justice, specifically according to divine law
As The Gift of The Holy Ghost is now available to all born-again believers, they are all admonished to remain filled and commune with Him now and forevermore. Apostle John writes,
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them <all opposing forces of Christ>: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.
[I Jn 4:4]
Apostle Paul writes,
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
[II Cor 13:14]
